I did a little bit of internet checking and there doesn't seem to be an option for rack mounting the Mac Pro. Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Steve

I don't think there is a dedicated rack mount kit, but most computers work fine mounted on their sides.

Are you looking for rack mounting it in a proper rack, or something like that could do? MacCuff Pro by Sonnet

I have a 19" rack. I can get cases for hard disk arrays and PCs all day long. I don't have any experience with the Mac Pro yet. More then likely I will be adding a Mac Pro to my arsenal and was hoping Apple had a standard rack mount case for the Mac Pro. Guess I can add a shelf and stand it up. :-/

Marathon used to make a mount for PowerMac G5s, but you would have to saw the handles off as the case is too tall to fit horizontally in a 19" rack.

I got one from Marathon that mounts 2 vertically (no need to saw off handles), but it is like 6U!

Yes. You're missing Apple's insistence that if you want a rack mounted Mac, you buy an XServe, whether it meets your technical needs or not.

Ha, so it would seem.

Guess I will be doing some fabrication. If I am correct I can cut off the handles, lay the box horizontal and slide it into the rack.

i was thinking about this for long time. what are the disadvantages of buying a xserver to a macpro in a post production facility?

Tek Serve in NYC used to do the handle sawing mod, not sure if they do anymore...they have a G5 rack-mounted on its side on display last time I was there (last week). It will void your apple warranty as far as I know.

Looks like a good solution.

I contacted Cadlock in the UK back in December. Their US distributer is Activate The Space, but they said they wouldn't have any stock until the new year.

I tried emailing Activate The Space again last week, but didn't get a reply.

Anyway, I installed my old Marathon G5 rackmount:

New product from Custom-Consoles.com (home of the IsoBox) now provides a lower cost option to horizontally rack mount your Mac.

No hacksaw required.

Tekserve and any of the other dealers should have this in stock soon or you can get it direct from the factory in Nashville.
