Not really a post guy and I have to trim some footage I shot. Can I take an edit out of a long r3d file and make a new shorter r3d? How do I do this? With Red software?

Thanks.

That functionality does not yet exist in currently available RED tools. Unless I am missing something in REDCINE-X I haven't discovered yet.

I did miss that feature then! I need to check that out. Thanks.

Only FCP can do it, but in QT wrappers.

Currently there's no way to trim an R3D file and keep it in the R3D format. Clipfinder will export a trimmed clip to another format, and FCP L+T can import trimmed clips. But no direct R3D to R3D trimming...yet.

Ah... that's what I thought. Here I was looking all through ClipFinder wondering what I was missing. Only the camera makes R3D at this time.

There is a LONG standing feature request for this to be added to the SDK so all vendors making tools that support R3D footage can do this.

Hopefully this will come soon because there are a number of reasons people need to cull footage, not the least of which is conforming a film at a facility external to editorial.

Amen. I am trying to trim/export a RED 4k project to send to a color house (they don't want to have to conform all the "extra" footage).

It's looking more and more like I'm going to have to convert to DPX (best format?) and export everything that way.

I've not done this before, and I don't know a lot about After Effects (we're on PC here, so AE is how we'll need to get to DPX), so I'm a little worried about the process.

I'm also wondering if the DPX files rendered to 4k will be larger than the R3D files?

Any answers/help/advice is greatly appreciated.

R3D trimming

It would make my workflow SOOOOO much easier to be able to trim R3D's. Please guys put down the Anamorphics for a second and implement this hugely useful part of the programming. Thanks.
