hi everybody,

i´m new to this, but spent a lot of time reading in this forum, helped a lot already!

my question is this:

can i wrap my r3ds in a dpx file in color to send to the post house for grading for film output? will they be able to grade the original raws in this way?

what i did was this:

shot red 4k
created prores 720p with redrushes, graded with redalert
edited in fcp
reingested native r3d in fcp
exported xml to color
cannot activate red plugin, no dpx output

export edl to color
red plugin active, dpx output possible, but can´t relink clips in timeline to original r3ds...

also tried the crimson/redcine thing, but redcine wouldn´t read my crimson xml...

so many problems....

hope any of you has an idea.

thanks a lot!

best,

hannes

Hannes,

I do this workflow alot.

I export a locked edit as an XML, then use clipfinder in re-conform to R3D linked sequence. Then back in FCP, import an xml that was generated from clipfinder. Next send to color. Set render type to DPX and then Render. It is pretty simple. You should be able to utilize the Red Tab in the Primary-In where you can select your Gamma. Clipfinder is a great program and has really streamlined my workflow.

hi tod!

thanks for your reply!

clipfinder sounds great, have to check it out. reconform in fcp is quite a hassle.

in the meantime i managed to get my reconformed edl into color. in my previous attempts i had the "use as cut list" box checked in the edl import.
now it works fine. red tab working, dpx export working.

but my question still is if i should do a first grade in color or send my linear light and camera gamma dpx to the lab.

thanks again!
