When will it be possible to open up a single R3D file in Photoshop CS5 or Lightroom for RAW image manipulation ? What's holding things up ?

I dont want don't mean to sound negative, but you can export a floating point PSD out of AE into Photoshop, is it really worth it for a whole team of developers to concentrate on that right now, you can manipulate Raw R3D in AE to the max, the tools are all there. Maybe I am being too brash but you should probably not bug David McGavran right now. We need him to work day and night on implementing REDcolor2 REDgamma2 and importing R3D xml files back into PPro CS5.

Uh, don't listen to shashbugu. At all. The source settings dialog in PP/AE sucks. Can't even zoom!! We need to be able to open R3Ds in ACR ASAP.

Now, I'm refering to tacking ACR onto PP/AE and I really don't care about PS/LR3, but still, yes, ACR support. Top Red-related priority.

hey I finished REDColor2 and gamma2 yesterday... You just have to be patient ;) What do you mean about R3D xml files back into PPro CS5? Don't want to drop the ball...

Cheers

PPCS5 IS, by FAR, the best software for working with Red. Simple, stable, super fast, lots of color correct tools that are Real-Time.... Just amazing... Not to mention yoru friendly, forthcoming presence on thsi forum.

Any chance new Source settings will ever get 3-Way Pots, curves?

Nothing major, just that we exported a RED xml from smoke into PPro, we just got error messages. We already got relinking workaround today, using and Quicktime edl's. Its no big deal actually it was a one time need. But when i did a search around the web last night I realized that it might actually a non implemented in Premiere.

I also noticed that the folks from Plural eyes were having the same issue

4.We haven't added support for .r3d (RED camera) files because the results can't be imported back into Premiere. We are exploring solutions for this.

Honestly the source settings should only be used for white balance, flut and Color space, beyond that PPro and AE can work in floating point to squeeze a few extra stops of light out, why limit yourself to 12 bit RGB.

What do you mean you can't zoom? Reframing and scaling are excellent in both AE and Prepro,

i just think it would be nice to have a curve tool or a histogram.

I agree with you on that, I just wish all those tools were implemented in the effects menu rather than in the interpret footage menu.

wow I have no idea what you mean by RED xml.... Do you mean FCP XML? I am going to do some research. We support RED RMD but not sure what XML is in this context.

My feelings exactly! I guess most people still don't understand that you can really work nondestructively on PP/AE with RED footage, and that the color correction tools there are all much better than RCX. As are the reframing options.

Hi Rudi,

Maybe, but how to color correct with decent speed in AE ?

Here, it takes forever to render in AE.

but then you're not working with the raw data. unless you're suggesting they just mix it in, but i could see how that could be confusing as to whether you're doing pre or post processing on the raw file.

or are you saying they just show up in the effects panel? because that might be legit for sure. i can see how the whole separate source settings UI window for it does seem a bit odd, maybe counterintuitive... definitely inconvenient.

but! we appreciate the fact that it's supported at all, and handled in a fairly elegant way, so thanks david. now about those curves...

david & shash - isn't xml supported in redcine-x? is that what we're talking about?

la la la

Dave

I'm guessing this is on the radar then? The curves tool would be nice, but actually the histogram would be even nicer.

David, you guys are doing great work! I'm sure you guys have you plate full as it is, but the fact that you're staying on target, working diligently to improve RED implementation is good news for this community.

its easy to send out a Redcode edit timeline FCP XML out of PPro, but you can't import an FCP-XML edited somewhere else pointing to native R3D files into PPro. its not that important really.
