Hi Guys

Just a question while I convert Red Files All Day & Night to DPX
When will that day come when my Filmlight Baselight4/ Autodesk
Inferno & Flame +++ have the R3D:detective2:

... You should send Auto desk an angry email. Something like "Hey, bozos! The SDK has been out like an entire week! Get on it! before I like, bomb you. Signed enraged client." You may want to omit any talk of bombing, the police frown on it rather a lot.

Lachlan, be careful or the Patriot Act will follow you into your dreams with words like that

Before you send a potentially embarrassing email like that, you should perhaps try to understand that the systems you mention were designed to deal with uncompressed images, and uncompressed images only. Their processing power is dedicated to image manipulation, not decompression. Any compressed format can be decompressed, and thus used with these systems, including Red material.

Just a thought.

I don't believe there is ANY software grading company NOT looking at Red support...

Some have certain existing advantages that can be re-purposed to good advantage with Red footage.

Ultimately (within 6 months??) we will all be looking at the fine details rather than just plain desperate..

regards

Michael

many discreet applications, as well as iridas applications, as well as cineform applications do support redcode internally. The versions werent released as red had a contract which prohibited other companies than apple and assimilate to support the red camera.

smoke etc do also support a large variety of compessed formats - including p2 etc.

Laguun,

In ASSIMILATE's case, that is completely false. We do not nor have we ever had a written contract with RED that prohibited other companies from supporting the RED camera.

Our agreements with RED are handshakes between people who value them.

Hey, BenAlfa

I've been working with our Lab on getting our film into Baselight for the last couple of days. I have written a small script that converts a Final Cut EDL into an EDL that Baselight can read and link to your dpx files. PM me if you want it.

one day RED will have the worlds best support from all software and hardware vendors.

I hope anyway.

:waaa:

Baselight is actually pretty good at handling compressed formats right now - we support lots of variants of MXF files (DNxHD coming in the next major release), Quicktime etc for conform, playback/grading and rendering. Architecturally, supporting R3D just isn't that different for us (apart from the higher res :-)), so once we've gotten our heads around the SDK, we should be good to go.
