  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi all,

Trying to open up a clip shot on the Epic back in 2012. In the RDC folder, I have seven R3D clips plus the RMD. The first six clips are the expected 4.29GB file size, but the last one is 96.33GB!

Needless to say, this clip crashes RCX. If I remove the seventh R3D from the folder, I can open the clip, but it seems to end prematurely.

If I've lost it forever, it's probably not the worst thing in the world - all clips used in the final edit happen before the end of the sixth R3D. What's odd is that the whole clip was able to be used back in 2013 - my (now deleted) 720p proxy edit file has an in point of 11:49:11:21 and out at 11:59:19:10, but the R3D with the seventh R3D file removed is in at the same time but out at 11:58:44:22.

Any guesses what's going on here / what I can do about it?

First guess would be that your disk directory has been corrupted and is mis-reporting the size of that r3d segment, since we know that that file size is impossible to create on a redmag.

You should make sure you backup up that drive immediately, and then run your disk maintenance programs to to verify the filesystem and directory structure.

More than likely you will find other corrupted files as well.

Forgot to mention that we have exactly the same thing on our backup drives, which weren't used at all during the edit or since, so it can't be a disk issue unless it happened on set during the offload.

No other corrupted files that I can tell - RCX is at least able to scan them all. This particular file will crash RCX (and Resolve) if I even try to view the reel.

Disk Utility reports that everything appears OK and SMART status on drive is normal. That, together with exactly the same issue for that file on the backup drive, suggests that it isn't disk corruption.

I'm guessing RED tech'swill find this pretty intresting. Maybe hit your repup not as a priority thing but just to let them see.
