Hi Guys

I'm little trouble to find available DV codec from either Red Rushes, Red Cine or Clipfinder.

What i want to do is take R3D files and convert those to DV codec (PAL, NTSC). It seems that impossible to convert unless i use Scratch. But this should be available, for simple stuff like this from red rushes or whatever.

Any findings or experience converting R3D to DV ?

Thanks

Rivai,

You can bring your footage in to FCP, then send your timeline to "Color" and convert there in the project settings. There's even a pre-set.

We use ae for this, select all clips in ae, file/new comp from selection, will put each clip in a comp and add to render cue, if u make dv the default render choice in pref, then all clips will be ready to go, works great, if u want to try and my explanation is no good let me know, i try explain better.

Hi guys,

I want to monitor offline edit with normal TV by passing thru firewire, i happened to have the convenient ADVC canopus breakout box that i purchased years ago and i can make use of it. This is to do edit on location, small and convenient setup.

and

Couple of the suggestions here by using color and after effects will work but not very convenient. So after a few trial, i end up with 1280 x 720 Prores file and i can dump it inside the DV timeline, still playback in realtime (with greenbar on top) and i have the freedom to do pan and scan. So far so good..altho at the end i didnt render with DV codec, but prores is working on DV timeline :)

Thanks for all of the feedback...

for a project i did last year i transcoded all the shots via compressor to DV-PAL.

- import quicktime proxies into compressor
- select dv-pal as output codec
- edit with the quicktime dv pal (if i remember right compressor also transfered the original timecode to the new clips)
- online with crimson, etc.

regards,
martin

Thanks for the tips martin

Hi,

I tried to convert 4K 2:1 R3D material to Pal with Redcine.
When I set my project 4:3 the Quicktime output is ok. (with proper pan & scan). But when I set the project 16:9, the output quicktime is 4:3 and the image is "pressed" horizontally, with 2 vertical bars.
Is it the right way to do it, or I have to follow another workflow?
