R3D Data Manager 4.2

We are proud to announce the release of R3D Data Manager version 4.2.

Updates in this release:

  • Error on R3D files only: Added ability to only error on R3D files not passing checksum verification. Other files will just generate a "warning" not "error". This option is user selectable in the preferences.
  • Results box shows errors first: The results box now re-sizes correctly and will show errors first. No need to search through the entire log to find the errors.
  • Eject Red Media: Added ability for R3D Data Manager to auto-eject devices that copied successfully when user presses "reset". It will warn if it was unable to eject drive.
  • Updated Quicktime Render options: We changed the way options are set in the Quicktime Render module, so that we can add more options without taking up more screen real estate. This adds room for options that will directly deal with footage shot with the Epic and Scarlet.
  • More Avid DNxHD codecs: Added a variety of Avid DNxHD codecs to render to from the Quicktime Renders module.
  • Added 4.5k source option. The Quicktime Render module is ready to render from RED One 4.5k shot material.
  • New TC Burn Options: Added new options to the timecode burn window. Now has the ability to burn on the first frame only, last frame only, both first and last frame, or all frames
  • User Reticules: Now you can setup custom masks based on frames that you setup in the Red One. If you setup a custom user frame in the Red One, you can copy those settings directly into R3D Data Manager, and it will create the mask for you, resizing your custom frame to the shot resolution. No need to do any math - just input your numbers and go.
  • Refactored frame masking math: We changed the way R3D Data Manager figures out the masking, to be more precise.
  • Fix multiple renders: In some circumstances R3D Data Manager would render a shot multiple times. We fixed this bug.
  • Added 1k output resolutions: We added 1/4 res output resolutions to the defaults. You can now select 1024x576 and 1024x512 output resolutions.
  • Quicktime Rendering ready through 6k: We added options to the Quicktime Render module to be ready for all (currently announced) resolutions up to 6k. Epic and Scarlet camera ready.
  • Number of frames rendered: We altered the GUI to properly show the number of frames rendered.
  • Website links: We added links in the program that will take you right to our website.

Upgrade note: Because we slightly changed the name of the executable, DO NOT auto-update the program. Instead, download the package, delete the "R3DManager" from your applications, double click on the DMG file you downloaded to mount it, and copy the "R3D Data Manager" from the DMG image to your Applications folder. Then re-link it to your dock.

IF UPGRADING FROM 2.x: You will need a new key before using this product. Make sure to have one sent to you by entering your information here

In addition, we are taking reservations for the Windows version of R3D Data Manager. We have a special price right now for current R3D Data Manager license holders for a discount above the posted website price. For new orders, we are running a pre-release special: place your order now and get special advance price. Order both the Mac and Windows versions and receive a combo discount. All the details are on our order page.

It seems interesting... I'll probably buy it once the PC version will feature the Quicktime batch convert mode. That's one thing I never understood fom the Red-wise software developpers : right now there is still no solution to easily batch convert R3D files to QT files (DNxHD for instance) on the PC side.

All the offers on the Mac side feature these, but there is already the QT proxies possibility which allow QT batch conversion from any free app.

Hey guys, have you heard that 90% of the market is PC stuff ? It's not because you've got an little apple on your desk that everyone has it. Some others prefer oranges...

And would also be good that the Red guys annouce the QT proxies enabled on PC... maybe after the release of the 28K Epic ? :sarcasm:

Anyway... good work though...

I'd like to upgrade and have tried, but the E-form keeps giving me an Error.

Please advise

Thanks

auto copy start

auto copy start

One last note: most of the changes noted above came from user input. So if you have something you'd like to see, we are all ears.

One little thing (I hope), an auto copy start option. I would love to add the destination directory while cheksum is runing (possible now) and if checksum succeds that the copy will start with out me.

Thank you for a very usful application.

Thank you for a very usful application.

Right now, the process of calculating the initial checksums starts as soon as you load your first source into the queue, provided its a Red Media.

Then you can add up to 4 destinations, while it is still calculating initial checksums.

Then you can click start, while it is still calculating initial checksums. After all the initial checksums are calculated, it will start copying without further human intervention.

So, you can add to queue, setup a destination (if its not already saved) and click start, and walk away, all in about one minute of your time. It will calculate the initial checksums and start copying, then check the checksums for each destination, all on its own without you needing to stand around watching it. (of course, you can watch it, but I figure you have more important things to do)

Is that what you were looking for?

Updates in this release:

  • GUI Updates: We fixed an error where some buttons were not properly linked. During or testing phase everything did check out, but somehow the release version did not have some buttons assigned to the proper action.

Now Accepting Paypal: Im glad to announce that we are also accepting Paypal for license payments. Our preferred method is still via credit card, because Visa & MC dont take such a big cut as Paypal does. But by popular demand, we now accept Paypal.

Thanks a whole lot. Still waiting for an digital.magazine.profile manipulation and reddrive renaming option, though:-)

I would love the ability for the Activity screen to be self scrolling
so i can leave it in the background or on the side and see what clip name we are currently transfering without having to scroll constantly to the bottom.

Also if it can be color coded that would be great.

In the Source directory a Media Size count would be great as a quick way to check how much we have shot on that mag, especially for Red-Raids.
Between "Source Folder" and "checksums" and "size" column would be great.

Also in the destination plane a transfer-speed readout would be great, as we can quickly troubleshoot any bottle-necks that might pop up and be able to fine-tune our setups

The dock icon to include % until completed, similar to FTP clients have ...would also rock, for those of us that run it in the background.

just some small requests, if any get used it would be much appreciated.

conrad,

how many machines can i load your program on to? i have two laptops and a mac pro that i would love to use it with.....do i have to buy 3 copies to make this happen????

You can load the program onto as many computers as you own. As long as you own the computer, theres no issue. However, if the computer is not owned by you, the owner will need to obtain their own license.

Thanks

Hi,
I'm having troubles with the latest version of r3d data manager. I'm getting a lot of errors (but if I check the copied files manually they seem to be ok) and last time the software copied only the half of the clips.

Ill need a bit more detail to help you.

What files are you getting errors on? If they are non-R3D files, then perhaps you are modifying them outside of R3D Data Manager. In this case, you should turn on the option to only error on R3D files.

As for files not copied, re you positive you didnt cancel the copy? What does the activity log show?

Some of these details you may not want to post in a public forum, so you can email me conrad -at- r3ddata.com

They are only r3d files. If I disable check copied checksums it seems to work but If I able the check of the checksums after copy r3d data manager says that the checksums doesn't match. I'll try to send you more details by email.
Thanks.
