  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

R3D Data Manager Quicktime Batch Renders Released (v4.0)

has the update to 4.0 been disabled right now? I'm receiving an error when trying to update one of my laptop systems.

Nice! One other thing i noticed was that the status bar would always be 100% before the clip would be fully debayered, exported and moved on to the next clip. This is a little misleading and would be nice to have a more accurate meter. Possible?

MB

We discovered an issue where the Quicktime Batch Render was not setting the debayer render resolution properly. Consequently it was always doing a full quality debayer, not a half quality or other settings. This lead to the program being slower than RedRushes with the same settings.

We have fixed that, and it works properly. In fact, we now beat out RedRushes in a time test, as noted below:

This was done on a MacBook Pro, 2.33Ghz, 2Gb, and we were processing 2k files for ProResHQ 1080. You'll notice that we are a little more specific in the GUI now also, with "Camera/RSX default" now being the default for most Rendering options.

So we have a couple of other things to code up and we should have a new version out soon.

Thanks.

The meter come direct from input on the status of the debayer. I suppose that red's tools note the frame working not the frame done, but in our tests then it never gets to 100%.

Hmm...Maybe it will be different for me when the new small update appears. Yesterday, the status bars would race to 100% but the file would still be cooking in the output directory. Maybe a frame counter would be nice so you could see the current & total frames like RR would be great too. Just a thought.

I would love to purchase this program unfortunately for one reason or another it denies me or cancels my registration. Your credit card authorization process is very poorly done. There is no separation between billing and registration. For our company our studio has a different address then our corporate office. This is were all billing needs to go. Every employee has a credit card with his or her name on it. However the product needs to be registered under the company's name. All of this could be resolved very easily but there is no way to contact customer service, except by email, and they are not responding.

We did respond. And since you want to bring this public:

Your initial order was DENIED because your the address you supplied did NOT match the credit card address on file. Thats a required feature, and billing 101. How can we verify who you are and process the order if you do not provide a valid address? Our credit card processor requires a valid address, period, end of story.

Secondly, you submitted TWO orders. After the first did not go through, you submitted a SECOND one with the correct address. This one went through. Since that one went through, we then CANCELED the first one. Thats why you received a KEY via email and then a cancellation notice.

And you will notice Im posting this 30 minutes after you posted. The fact that I am current ON SET and WORKING should show you my commitment to customer service.

Can you send me the issue you are having through the "send feedback" form in R3D Data Manager, so that I can see some details of the system you are running on?

Thanks.

I sent a crash report in yesterday. I'll send another feedback report now. I'm not sure if its a problem or not but I will send you the report with details of what I am seeing with the status bar.
Thanks

What is the windows price? Will it work with Vista x64? Did you know that when you copy in vista to more than one place, if you paste to the new locations quickly enough, it only reads the source disk 1 time, it caches the data being copied. How are you going to do the quicktimes on windows?

The prices are on the website: https://www.r3ddata.com/order/. Im not going to list them here, as they will change when the windows version is released.

As for your copy/paste thing, its not applicable in this situation, and certainly wont help with files that are 2Gb.

The quicktimes on windows is already planned and really a no-brainer (in terms of HOW to do it), but will not be in the first windows version.

The copy paste trick works with R3D files that are larger than 2GB, I was surprised when it worked, but it does. It only reads the source information once and then can write to multiple directories.

We are pleased to announce version 4.1 of R3D Data Manager, which fixes several things in the render module:

  • Fixed the Render Resolution: We fixed the code to correctly parse the render resolution selection and apply it to the render. This enables much faster render times.
  • Updated Options: We updated the options to be more in line with other RED offerings, for consistency of verbage.
  • Disabled options for RSX/Look management: We added the option "RSX/Camera Default" to the look options. Previously, the items set here had to match items in your RSX or R3D file to get consistent results. Now the options will only override the RSX or R3D look options if you choose to. In other words, the "RSX/Camera Default" will use the option as set in the R3D or RSX file with no further intervention.
  • Updated Alerts: We updated the code to alert you if no R3D files are found in the source path.
  • Select a single RDC Folder: Now you can select a single RDC folder for processing, or a RDM folder.
  • Added frames to render: We now show you the current rendering frame and total number of frames to be rendered for both the current file and all files.
  • Time Stamps: We added time stamps in international format to the log file.

In addition, we are taking reservations for the Windows version of R3D Data Manager. We have a special price right now for current R3D Data Manager license holders for a discount above the posted website price. For new orders, we are running a pre-release special: place your order now and get special advance price. Order both the Mac and Windows versions and receive a combo discount. All the details are on our order page.

The new version seems quite a bit faster. Nice job,

Question - If there is an anamorphic option under "Shot Aspect Ratio" shouldn't it desqueeze the images shot anamorphic? I selected the 2.40:1 Framing aspect ratio, selected Anamorphic in "Shot Aspect Ratio" and "yes" to Enable Masking but the image is still squeezed in a 2.40:1 crop. Is it possible for shot aspect ratio to perform the 2:1 desqueeze? Otherwise, there are no manual controls to desqueeze the image and make anamorphic Aspect Ratio kind of a worthless option unless you are shooting spherical and framing for 2.40:1 (kind of defeats the purpose IMO of an Anamorphic option).

Thanks!

The anamorphic option doesnt de-squeeze the image - its not supposed to. The options there replicate the options in the camera, mostly so you dont get confused. Imagine the confusion from people trying to conform their projects, but only having 2:1 and 16:9 to choose from.

Short of redcine, I dont think any of red's tools do a de-squeeze.

Hmmm. But my point is, there is no difference at all in the transcode between "Shot Aspect Ratio" options "Anamorphic and 16:9 with anamorphic shot footage. I personally think this adds more confusion rather than less. I (and others) would love to be able to select the anamorphic option and have it do something useful, ie. de-squeeze our image to give us an accurate representation in our final transcode from R3D Data Manager. This eliminates the two step process of transcode and de-squeeze later in editorial. In fact, thats my point, I wouldn't go through that workflow, I would just use REDCINE. Since the option is already there why not make it active. I would be happy to give you the appropriate x & y values for each standard Output format or send you anamorphic footage to help the cause.
I understand and know that no other RED tool besides REDCINE has an option for anamorphic de-squeeze (REDLINE excluded) thats why i would love it to work with your great tool. Is it possible to have this option enabled or be another drop down menu, or possibly just an x and y value option to be able to plug in manually like in REDCINE? I was really excited when I saw it initially and then realized it wasn't really functional how you would expect it to be.
Help a brother out!

Hey
Can this app be used for off-set aswell? Meaning:
A DiT uses R3D Data Manager to backup all the CF-cards on-set.
He copys it to multiple Drives.
Brings one drive to me at my Posthouse for archiving.
I use R3D Data Manager to Copy the whole Drive over to my Raid + 2xLTO3a and let the app do a checksum + Log. And after that does all the QT's.

Would that be possible? Or is it currently Only working to copy Red-media?

Forgive me, but I dont understand where you are reading that it only works from Red Media? It will work from ANY source and write to ANY destination, as long as both are mounted volumes. R3D Data Manager is designed to be an end to end solution. In fact I know of lots of post houses that use R3D Data Manager to transfer clients footage - including a major one that posts on here quite frequently.

Could the app "combine" the R3D's + Wav/BWF audio-files to create a complete QT for offline?

Thats really called syncing, and not possible in the app at this time - or really ever, since it requires playing back the file and moving one with respect to the other.
