Trying to find the easiest solution to convert .r3d files to .exr (openexr) files. Is this just a matter of rewrapping or is transcoding required. We need to keep all of the camera originals 10 bit log information through the post workflow.

Thank you for your help.

In REDCine-X you can export R3D to EXR. EXRs are always exported linear light, with lens-cap black at 0.0f, and based on the ISO/Exposure/FLUT you select, 18% mid grey will be mapped to 0.18f in the EXR.

If you export an R3D via REDCine-X to REDLogFilm, you will find that based on the ISO/Exposure/FLUT you select, 18% mid grey will be mapped to code value 470 in the 10bit DPX you create.

You can also use the Lin2Log node in Nuke to go from EXR to equivalent REDLogFilm via it's default settings, and also from a REDLogFilm export to linear light in Nuke via Log2Lin, again with default settings.

Hope that helps Paul, and it sounds like the EXR / REDLogFilm workflow is right for your needs.

Graeme
