First off, please forgive me for what must be a rather old and overasked question, but ive given the forums a try and am on a bit of a tight schedule.....

We're on a shoot over the weekend and the client has at the last minute come back with a request for the files to be optimised for use in an AVID edit rather than FCP. Now, Ive never used AVID before and am entirely ignorant to the way it works. Apologies once again.

Ive read through the PDF that is available on Avid.com, and have found all the talk of ALE, DnxHD, AAf, AFE DPX and so on thoroughly confusing. Could anyone give me a bare bones basic idea of what would need to be done to the rushes in order to make them compatible with an Avid project?

I suppose I could hand over the PDF guide along with the rushes and copies of REDRushes, REDcine and Metauze etc, but would much rather be able to do the job for them on set. (Im running on a Macbook Pro)

Any help here would be much appreciated!!

Will yolu have a Media Composer on that on-set system or not for starters?

Here is the barebones:

1. Download DNxHD codecs from Avid.com/red
2. Render to the DNxHD flavor of choice in Redrush.
3. Export ALE from Redrush (file > export ALE) or export ALE from Metacheater which gives you more options.
4. Bring ALE into Avid which gives you a bin of shots that needs to be reconnected to its source media (the DNxHD quicktimes you created)
5. Batch import the DNxHD quicktimes
6. Edit
7. Give yourself a treat for doing a great job.

You can import the BWF files at any time on recorded. The sync process is done once both picture and sound are in the Avid using Avid AutoSync. In the step by step mentioned above, the AutoSync process would happen between steps 5 and 6.
