Andrew and the Color team at Apple have delivered an amazing improvement in speed. I was able to grade 4K R3D files and preview the output on my Panasonic Plasma in real-time. My setup is a 2008 8 way MacPro at 2.8 Ghz, Radeon HD 4870 512 MB, non-raided internal hard drives. Even if you don't deliver in 4K, being able to work directly on the raw 4K files means a smoother final image.
I really wish Final Cut was able to work directly on the R3D files. It looks a lot like Color with a few more features, could do basic cut edits. If only Color could replace Final Cut Pro for editing.
