Folks,

I've recently been reading some detail about the various EPIC stages. Doesn't affect me, as I'm not an existing R1 owner. I suspect the vast majority of R1 bodies will already be executed for the various EPIC stages - fair assumption?

This is logical, as EPIC-X is the successor/upgrade for the R1.

Scarlet is in no way an upgrade for R1. Yes it can do things R1 can't, but only at 3K. It represents a considerable move downmarket from that perspective.

The only mention of R1 -> Scarlet is that customers who don't execute any option for EPIC can instead get a straight 12% off the top on a Scarlet system. That doesn't seem to be an attractive deal at all to me.

Whilst we obviously don't *know* at this stage, given the above, is it reasonable to assume that Scarlet orders will be taken on a simple 'first come, first served' basis? Has anything been even hinted at publicly about that? I would expect existing customers who execute the 12% discount option to get their orders first, of course, but since there probably won't be many of them it'll be 'open season' on Scarlet very quickly perhaps? No stage 1, 2, 3 stuff...

Perhaps someone who knows RED business practices a lot better than me could comment?

I think that the Scarlet which people were talking about was the S35, which is now the EPIC-S.

As far as I can tell, Scarlet 2/3" versions were always going to be first in first served, but with a short period of exclusivity (like two weeks or something) for RED ONE owners first.

I really don't think that's necessary any more (given all the EPIC stages and now the EPIC-S), but I'm not sure what RED's most current opinion on the matter is - whether it's changed since the S35 becoming an EPIC. Because they haven't said anything on the subject since a long time before then as far as I know.
