Hi R1 peeps,
I'm considering upgrading from the original R1 bottom plate & cheeseplate as I need the sliding dovetail. I'm curious if anyone out there is using a R1 + Red's Quick Release Platform Dovetail + Mattebox? Did you have to get the R1 Riser to connect your mattebox (as it's described as its main purpose)? It'd be nice to not have to buy the Riser and go with the low profile mounting plate, put the Universal mount on the QR Platform and connect your rails and mattebox to that.

Also, dovetails. Can you use the ET dovetails with Red's QR platform?

Oooor, do I just go the ET Red BridgePlate option? Holiday sales are still going so nicely priced. But to be honest, I'm not so concerned with price as I am buying the "right" thing.

Thx!

I use the RED R1 DSMC Riser and RED Quick Release (Dovetail), but not the RED mattebox. I use it on our tripod with an ET 12"dovetail. The QR works great...I can pull the entire camera and rail assembly on and off sticks in a couple seconds. We keep another dovetail mounted on our jib head, and also use a shoulder rig with an integral dovetail (Allstar). That way we can slide off the QR Dovetail mount from the tripod dovetail...slide it onto another dovetail/device...click in the camera, and we are ready to go in a different configuration. Awesome!

I like the sound of your setup, Tom. You've just convinced me to go with the Red QR system with the ET dovetail. Thx!

Glad I could help, Jeff!
