  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Quvis Closes Doors...

So, what happens with wraptor?
Surely someone wants to pick that piece up...

I've been speaking with Doremi and Qube the last months.
It seems that everyone is struggeling to find a good businessmodel for DCP encoding...

Products like Wraptor are not likely to go away.

I do a lot in DCI, and creating DCP's is actually not that hard. (A lot of open source code on the net if you plug into each other gets you mostly their.) The encryption stuff is a bit harder, and what I wanted to test with Wraptor at some stage.

But really, Wraptor showed a need, and if they fail to deliver, some one else will rush in to follow up.

The big problem I have seen in this area is that not many people seem to understand colour space and using DPX files etc, and how it actually relates to what you see on screen.

DCI originally catered for sending files that controlled the gamut of the projector. But this has been largely abandoned.. As producers simply aim for a standardised colour file all DCI projectors use by default.

Some times I think a lot of hi end POST people make this harder then it it is, just to make it appear like black magic and justify $$$$ costs.

At the end of the day, an Indie Film Maker will have a reasonable grade one monitor, see the colour he wants, and the DCP creator will simply do a standard render to the standard gamut file all DCP projectors use. All this black magic will disappear once the editor can export it to a DCP himself.

P.S. Any news on the future of Wraptor still very welcome. please post.

Really? Does anyone have any idea as to how many copies of Wraptor were actually sold? My guess is that there were very few, but I'm willing to be proven wrong.

Could this bring some kind of delay or problems entering the delivery to some theathres that are using their systems???
Will this slow down even more the digital takeover of 35MM?
Because , it still seems quiet amazing how slow the theatre chains change over to digital right here.

that is more about projectors than servers.

There are plenty of other server companies out there. So I don't think Quvis not being around is going to slow anything down. Dolby has a really nice server and its very easy to use. Almost idiot proof...almost.
