Is QuickTime X compatible with RED proxies? I've noticed that it can't playback _H proxies without stuttering. QuickTime 7 has no problems with smooth playback of these clips.

Andrae,

Did you read about how QTX is different? The article explained how QTX is written from ground up and many many QT environment is using the old API which is differently based from QTX. We have to think QTX is a different environment and many apps and support have to be rewritten for QTX.

Yes I read the article and just re-read that page again. I still don't understand why QuickTime X is playing the proxy file with stuttering. Does a small 8KB proxy reference a certain codec? How will RED go about making this compatible with QuickTime X? If the proxy is referencing a 32 bit codec from an older API... doesn't the article state this:

"And the answer is revealed. When a 64-bit application using QTKit requires the services of the 32-bit-only QuickTime 7 back-end, QTKit spawns a separate 32-bit QTKitServer process to do the work and communicate the results back to the originating 64-bit process. If you leave Activity Monitor open while using the new QuickTime Player application, you can watch the QTKitServer processes come and go as needed. This is all handled transparently by the QTKit framework; the application itself need not be aware of these machinations."

Maybe something to do with current REDCOE? Mine is stuttering even on M size proxy.

I see that its calling up QTKitServer for a 32 bit process while trying to play a _H Proxy. Guess I have to understand how these proxies or as you stated REDCODE works.

I know how you feel when you see the beautiful still on QTX player and I want to make that work, too.

It does open and play somewhat but stuttering.

On my mac pro, in quicktime x and in quicktime 7, H proxies are playing fine at 25fps. Maybe is it because I don't use max option in camera?

Thats amazing I will have to do some new test shots today. The clips I was testing with were a few test clips I keep on the HD from last year. Will test with some new clips today.

right the max setting.
