I just bought a brand new macbook pro - 2.4 GHz with 2 GB RAM - which came installed with quicktime 7.5.7. For some reason I cannot render prores out of any red application and I think that it has to do with this version of quicktime. Here's what makes this even better - the only version of QT available for download is 7.5.5. I've tired uninstalling 7.5.7 and installing the older version to no avail. It will not let me go back to an older version! Anyone know anything about this? It must have something to do with QT....? So it would seem anyways.

I believe if you don't own FCS2, Prores coded is not included in your system but now Apple provide Prores installer separately for none FCS2 owners.

You can download a PreRes decoder from Apple for either Windows or Mac, but you cannot encode unless you have FCS2 installed. The ProRes decoder is part of QuickTime 7.5.5 or later.
