  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Quickplate V-Lock Battery module ready to ship

I rarely chime in on dev requests, but this is one I think should totally be implemented -- a Quickplate Module with a switch plate is completely usable/preferable to the current build, and I wonder what hurdle was in place to prevent it being designed in that manner originally.

RED does some amazing things, and appears fairly diligent in thinking through the Erector Set interoperability of the system, so I have no doubt there was likely something preventing it from being constructed in that form.

Does anyone can tell me if there is any differences between powering accessories from the + 1 module or the quickplate.
2-pins Lemo for the Quickplate versus 4-pins Lemo for the +1 module...what else ?

What a stupid design to need the plus one or the pointless adaptor thing!

Come on red sort it out, just watched the xl vid you just mailed out,

You know how to make it work, why not just do it?

Very odd, you would have sold a bucket load.

Not disagreeing entirely with you on this, just speculating:

1) xl module came out almost a year after the others, to design, prototype, and bring to market a brick module that did not need pointless module or +1 module would not be profitable at this point for red.
2) The adapter module and plus pulls the brick battery back far enough for said brick battery to better balance to the epic, also allowing for the various red touch screens and accessories to move around more freely.
3) + one module for sure not pointless, having ability to plug in another red monitor.
4) perhaps is a voltage issue?
5) pointless module + brick module still cheeper then xl module. Brick module solo would probably be even more expensive then xl.

All that being said, I would also be thankful to have a brick module that would pop right onto the back of epic like the xl.

Edit: any chance we can get the same badass spring loaded screws that stay in the adapter modules in all of the various lens mounts out there?

I remember reading somewhere that the reason why it's risky to not use a module adapter with the V-Mount batteries is because the weight of a V-Mount battery is a lot more thanthat of a Redvolt XL, so it could damage your EPIC/SCARLET Brain (who wants that???). Hence: lightweight/low profile/less battery = Redvolt XL module - more weight/just a couple of inches more profile/huge running time batteries = module adaptor + Quickplate module.

Sorry I haven't been able to find the post where they said this, but I remember it clearly.

Hope this helps!

would it not be the same weight and strain putting the battery and v-plate on the WC ,quickicpback, veiwfactor or infant any of them. not sure i understand the difference

I guess the difference is that when you use third party accessories they only cover the warranty on their items, but if the same camera manufacturer sells you an accessory that can endanger the integrity of their own cameras they have a lot more liability, 'cause they are supposed to know their gear inside out. So, I guess (just a wild guess) a camera manufacturer would always play in the safer side of numbers when releasing something, while a third party can take more risks.

Just a guess, as I don't really know how these politics work... :)

Yeah I also wouldn't believe that either. Surely adding more modules before the quick plate would increase strain as it's further away from the camera brain.
+ extra modules would also mean more weight.
I think it's really only down to design. This version of the quickplate design is just older than the XL battery module design.
Soon enough I'm sure there will be a new version, and I'll be in line when it does. Honestly can't wait, I can't stand my current versions.

A couple of dtaps would'nt go a miss:)

Red hates D-Taps
however gotta love Twist-Dtaps from Bebob

That is clever, shame all d-taps are not like that.
I want to get rid of all my d-taps, change to lemo and that's why I'd love an updated revised version of this quickplate v-lock battery module.
