I need to get quick stills from my footage in the fastest way possible. My poor search cant keep up with me though.

Heres a super fast way that was working for awhile, now I'm getting green screens. For example, in final cut, I changed my sequence settings to 4000x2100 (couldnt go any bigger(?)), then...

I scrubbed to the frame I wanted (M clips),

did a file>reconnect media,

replaced the M clip with the F clip by hitting> Locate,

then turned off "matched name and reel only" (sneaky, I know),

and now I'm getting green screens.

I can do it with the H clips.

Trying to track down the footage using RedAlert or going to my drive and searching=no dice. My project is too big.

If anybody has any words of wisdom, I'm all ears. I gotta deliver my "onset still photography" (I love it--my Red does two jobs) to my distributor asap for marketing purposes.

I'd probably use Clipfinder and load one shooting day at a time. You can scroll through the clips easily to get the right one, then scrub the timeline to the right moment and then hit a hotkey to generate a still (you can choose the file size and format in the preferences). You can also do a color correction right in Clipfinder. Or take the resulting tiff to Photoshop.

I bet you could get through 30 shooting days in a day with Clipfinder and generate a bunch of photos.

You may have some corrupted R3D or project files if you're getting green screens... Most likely the project file info due to the name change.

Clipfinder or RedCine would be much quicker for what you're doing than with Final cut and you can export full res images.

redcine-x doesnt seem to be working with build 14 footage. (i have footage from build 14 to build 17 in the movie). the bigviewer has horizontal bars of color.

all my footage i can view fine everywhere in redcine x EXCEPT in the biggest window. its all vertical bars of color (not horizontal).

yes. they look great. but i dont get to choose which exact frame i want, bc of the nonworking bigviewer window. i kinda have to guess from the timeline.

nope, now its not opening properly. probably because of installing redcine-x. which is a powerful program, i'm just going to wing it and guess.

unless anyone knows how to export stills from Clipfinder.

nope, using RCx with no working big viewer is no fun. i have to be able to pick the exact frame.

To export stills from Clipfinder
- get the latest beta version from my website
- configure using the "snapshots" tab in preferences
- press CMD-F to create snapshot of current frame

Cheers,
Hans

Yeah Clipfinder is great for this. I'd load each day in a seperate Clipfinder window and go from there. Thanks again Hans, I'm using Clipfinder right now on a feature to apply a one-light grade, transcode dailies, and on set playback. Works like a charm!

jeff, i think its just from using a macbook pro. it cant always read 4k qt proxies in fcp. i hope to god its not corrupted R3D files.

Macbook Pro should not have anything to do with it. I work on a Macbook Pro for half of everything I do.

Chances are the corruption just had to dow with swapping proxies around.

Glad you found clipfinder. It's an excellent tool.

a friend said this: "Yes, avoid FCP at all costs for what you are doing. First off, the quality is substandard for stills, because you aren't getting full quality debayering. You can't use F proxies and FCP chokes on anything above 2K."
