Hey all!

I'm looking for a super simple way to get footage off of my Mini-Mag and onto a hard drive when I'm out shooting. Is there a tool that does this at the touch of a button or am I looking at getting a super cheap 'notebook' that I can plug the Mag reader into and copy that to a USB drive?
A.k.a. is there something that copies straight from a Mini Mag reader or does it have to go: Mag reader -> notebook -> external USB drive.

Thanks!

Seems like a nice product. But when it costs the same or more as a macbook pro or other, wouldn't it be better to spend the same money and get a computer included?

Depends. I bought one because I was planning to shoot a lot of heavy location projects in the back of a jeep bouncing down the road. A Macbook is a lot harder to use than just pushing one button and it magically being double backed up and verified. Hard drives with cables and a giant hydra is a hassle. It's expensive but it works great.

It answers the OP's specific request for "Is there something that copies straight from a Mini Mag reader..."

It is a purpose built, robust, single function appliance. The amount of time it saves you will, fairly quickly, cover the cost of the unit.

How quickly? If I am producing a project and I have a $6000 budget per 8 hour shoot, then one hour is worth $750. If this unit saves me or my DIT one hour of time over of the course of the day, it pays for itself in 4 days. After that, it reduce the costs of every production it is used on thereafter.

Was thinking about a small computer appliance that just duplicated disks - usb3 drive in to time stamped sub-folder on 1 or more usb3 drives out - with some sanity check before completing
Is that the kind of gizmo that would be of value?
