  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hey all! I know the top of the quick release platform is an Arca plate, but what's the bottom dovetail? Is it Arri standard?
 
I have only seen it in person once, but the idea is Arca Dovetail camera base into 15mm rod QR mount. Base of that goes to standard Arri Dovetail.

You can then either go straight to that or use a small dovetail to go to 19mm rods, which I'll certainly be doing occasionally.

Does anyone have an answer for mounting this with 15mm rod system or 19mm rods for a follow focus and matte box? Nothing I have or can find online seems to line up…and I’m supposed to travel overseas Saturday. This is really frustrating to not have stock at Red, or with any other 3rd party manufacturers.

My V-Raptor Quick Release Platform arrived recently, they just started fulfilling. It natively supports 15mm and using the included tiny dovetail I attach it to a 19mm bridge. That does all the things needed with the advantage of having an Arca/Arri Dovetail setup. I ordered day 1. Saw a bunch shipped though via people online.

In the meanwhile all sorts of things can work. WC Universal Kits, BT Kits, etc. But so far I haven't seen anything close to the quality and build of the RED QR. I'll be ordered another shortly.
 
Well Phil you are indeed one of the lucky ones. Everywhere stock is weeks away and I had no idea it would be so bad that I couldn’t shoot with the Raptor once I received it late last week…BT has nothing, WC has nothing. Red had nothing. Nobody anywhere, so please if anyone has a heads up on who might have something somewhere let me know.

Hey Jeremy, if you need something in a pinch, Wooden Camera’s Komodo baseplate kit works pretty much just as well on Raptor. I was using it for months, up until my Red QR kit showed up last week. Plus it’s got built in rosettes!
 
The BT Base Kit for Komodo is also what I'm using here. Works well with all my 15mm matte boxes, focus and other stuff I wanted to use so far.
 
Thanks for the advice…while I was hoping for a fluid and compact system enabling my matte boxes to remain on a rod system nothing is in stock. I already have a Komodo so I can use the Tilta system to at least get 15mm rods past my Hot Rod PL Mount, which is beefy and awesome BTW, so I can add my follow focus. The matte box will have to be of the clip on variety since none of that lines up properly on 15mm rods. The quest for a complete set up continues…I’ll see what comes in first -the 8Sinn should arrive today so I will know if that really does work.

On a related note I’m cancelling my Red Dual XLR for Komodo as I received the Alvin’s cable which does the job just fine at a reduced cost.
 
Happy to report 8Sinn to the rescue! Everything works and arrived just in time. My 15mm rods line up with my matte box and I can use my follow focus on the rails. Seemed to be a very good price for the top plate, handle, side mount plates, and the riser/dovetail. I would certainly recommend!
