  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So say we black shaded at 4k 24fps/48 shutter

Then we shoot a time lapse at 5k 1fps/ 1/2 shutter

Then we go back to 4k 24fps/48 shutter.

Do I need to re black shade at 4k/24 even though I never black shaded to 5k/1? I guess my question is does shooting something at high/low shutter mean I need to re-calibrate for "normal" shooting? Thanks!

It's much more critical to black shade for 1fps at 1/2 second shutter than the 24fps at 1/48th shutter because fixed pattern noise, which is what black shading helps eliminate, is much more probable with longer exposures. Which is to say that NOT re-black shading when you switch to 1/2 second exposures is a bad idea.

Best practice when switching back would be to re-black shade for 1/48 second, or choose a previously saved black shade. But you're much more likely to get away with not black shading at 1/48 than at 1/2.

Makes sense..but it would be nice to know for sure if shooting at other shutter speeds knocks "normal" out of calibration. Any input from the Red team?
