Anyone know if this thing would work? Could be great if youre in a jam and cant have a laptop with you. Wondering if its a true copy or actually looks for specifics like file type. It is FAT32...

Any ideas?

Well then you also could record on Red drive and leave it on the disk. I think as long as it is not RAID 1 it is much too dangerous to rely on such a tiny device.

The Nexto has found a fair bit of use in RED production. They claim the fastest backup - although the quoted speed doesn't seem too impressive to me. It is only a single copy, of course, and on a magnetic spinning media (much more likely to fail that CF) so you'll be wanting to make further copies when you can.

Our in-development SolidStore product is aimed to be a product specifically for this application in solid-state/file-based video production.

colorspace is slow though!! mine does 12MB/sec max on REDCARDS 8gb....why so slow??

I think I would want two of those 320GB nextos, and basically back up each 8GB CF card to two devices. That might lessen the chances of totally losing the contents of any single card.

My preference is reliability vs. speed but I haven't found speed to be a problem with the colorspace. (around 8-10 minutes per card)
I'm usually running with a fresh card while the other is copying.

Nexto claims to be 'the world's fastest' or something - and I've seen posted transfer times of between 40 seconds and one minute something for 1GB of data from CF to internal drive - so roughly 5 and a half minutes for a 8GB card at best speed I guess.

Wrangler Nexto?!

When is it due out Dylan? What size will it be and around how much?...

We were hoping to have an early production run by September, but we've been delayed by a few things (sound familiar?). Still hoping we can have units ready to go by year's end.

Size is approximately 240x110x240mm.

Price is still up in the air a bit as we're not yet able to lockdown hardware for supply orders.

Is 8-10 minutes not enough. How fast to you want them to be?

I mean...sure faster is better but how many cards do you have and what are you shooting? I mainly do features, and I find we don't shoot more than 10-20min/day. Sure, it depends how many camera too...like if you're shooting 3-cam shoot, that would be important?

My two Gb's worth.

Cheers...looking forward to something in the future.
