  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Questions..?

Jarred,

It was great seeing you guys at NAB, said hi to you and Jim, and yes I did open my wallet just a little bit :-)

Ballsy of you to show an alpha/beta product (the projector), as Jim explained it... I think we all got it. Thank you.

I'm going to ask a delicate, somewhat provocative question.

Jim spoke from the heart at the REDuser about RED, at the REDuser party, and about transparency. You are transparent, almost painfully so at time; thank you for that.

But less so in technical matters at time... of course you have secret sauce you have to keep secret, we all understand that. But would you be willing to be more open in the future about such things as pinouts and protocols? I'd love to see what companies like RedRock, Cinema Oxide, Viewfactor, and many others could do in terms of making alternative accessories - their take on side handle designs, alternative storage devices in side or rear modules, Redmote alternatives etc. etc. Can you be more open about that tech stuff without endangering your IP, product reputation, or profit margins?

Mike

I heard Jarred say that firmware will include gyroscope activation. Can somebody please tell me why i should be excited about this and what it means practically? Would love to know how this little feature will help or add to shooting. Thanks

THIS THREAD reminds me of the good ol' days of REDuser. Informative, constructive feedback, and a shared passion for creating art.

Well done Jarred, Jim - and especially the rest of you Redusers. Thanks for making this a great day.

We learned about R3D support for FCPX the same time and probably the same way you did. The new smoke is pretty bad-ass looking. Adobe is killing it right now... in a big way.

RCX there is alot coming... gonna keep that under wraps for now :)

You wont loose your Armor after the Dragon install.

Thanks Jarred that was fast! :)

Definitely good vibes today. Thanks Jarred for taking the time to do this and help keep those who couldn't make it in the loop. I had been to 6 NABs in a row until last year, due to work commitments and it's nice feeling like I'm kind of there virtually.

Good job this week! Better yet, good job the past few years. :-)

Any chance for a RED Drudge?

+1, We would love this!

An interesting question that comes up from time to time for the Scarlet X:

"Is it possible to shoot 24-30fps at 5k 2.40?"

Would that aspect ratio/crop be possible with current hardware?
This would be nice too :)

Mr. Land,

I apologize for asking more than one question, and this question but I have come up with a second one.

Can you add more than one SSD module onto a camera, and choose your poison on how they interact with each other? Say, either spanning or instant back up?

Hey Jarred,

This has been a super helpful thread, even for those of us in Vegas.

But most of all thanks for obsolescence obsolete. The new Bomb is a huge step up, and I don't have to buy a new one, just upgrade, and for being the only camera company that would include your last line in a major firmware update announcement.

+!, this is the best thread so far this year! Helpful and FUNNY! Thank you

We don't say thank you often enough,

Steve

This is the best thread this year, helpful and funny, Thank you Jarred!

Data gets saved as metadata, and can be pumped in to Nuke, Flame, etc. to provide a digital camera. Makes it monumentally easier to comp in objects if you don't have to do a 3D track and figure out that data. Also don't have to add tracking markers into your scene that you later paint out. There are tripod systems and the like that can be added on to any camera and provide this data, but they are costly.

Sooooo take what you would have spent on a tripod head that records pitch, tilt, and yaw, as well as somehow tracking position, and put it in your pocket. That's what Red just did. Your camera will quite literally be worth more than it is right now, within a few weeks, and more and more as they get better and better at tracking this data with future firmware updates.

Having these sensors could (and this is pure speculation on my part and would need a few additional pieces of hardware anyway) also potentially open the door to motion control ("moco"), depending on what other accessories Red comes out with in the future.

NIck thanks so much. This def sounds like a major major activation then. You just got me infinitely more pumped.

So very very grateful for RED and all you guys do. Just Exceptional. Brilliant thread. Brilliant. Was only saying last night as work till all hours, boy do I wish I was at NAB. You just massively helped to ease that disappointment. Thanks Jarred.

Best

Lliam
