  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Questions..?

Thanks Jarred for your passion and offering this thread. For you to take the time to read all of the here posts and offer so much news about the future is "just plain tits". Thank you.

I woke up this morning and rolled into our booth and realized that alot of you guys couldn't see what we were experiencing in Vegas... so today was for you. Today you heard things here first.

will the 9inch be OLED? 2K ?

and will there be an upgrade to the 5inch to OLED and highres

Not OLED for the big monitors. Right now big OLED displays consume way too much power.

5" is 800 x 480
7" is 1024 x 600
9" is 1280 x 784

I was going to come but had to work on a few projects here in NY.... Means a lot that you guys keep the forum in the loop and don't forget about us. I shall be there next year!

Any chance for a thunderbolt module, allowing to steal some camera horsepower... occasionally I find myself with my camera away from my higher end systems with just a mac and a camera (mostly scarlet, but sometimes epic) and want to review footage, play with RCX, and just get a little work done while I wait for whatever it is I'm waiting for. It'd be nice to be able to whip out a module from the kit, slap it on the back of the camera and have the ability to steal some of that glorious horsepower since the camera itself is capable of debarring footage in a real time...

Just something I've been thinking about lately that I thought would be a cool add on to the cameras.

You guys rock. Even in the middle of the biggest event in the industry you find time to address us on the net. A sincere thank you and more and more reasons to be a happy costumer, supporter and advocate for this unique company.

My questions are a bit "hard", however, hope you can handle them! :)

First warm up:

You talked about additional frame rates like 400 for the Epic. These will require the turbo cards? Any chance for an increase to 100 fps In 5K FF? This is the magic number for PAL...

2- What redcine x features can we expect in the near future? We got recently a handy "unsharp mask" option. Any special "effects" like vigneting, even masks for area specific cc?

EDIT 2.1 - any chance you guys make a couple of free RMD presets based in some looks and best practices provided by your collaborators like light iron or the great Graeme Natress? These could be nice starting points for some grading decisions and quick workflows... Please do it!

And now the hard, almost sure not to get an answer part :)

Apple is saying future FCPX r3d support. Are you guys getting a different vibe from them, are you working together on this or are they again doing everything without talking with you guys? Can we expect something good for this?
Obviously Premiere an Adobe are the partners of choice for Red material right now, but what do you have to say about Red and the new smoke and the new FCPX?

A small concern: I bought red armor, started I believe in February. Will upgrade to Dragon as soon as possible. What happens to red armor after the dragon install? We won't lose the armor, right?

Thanks Jarred and congratulations to the red team for such a successful event!

PS- You are being conservative with the Dragon's features, aren't you ? It sounds Excelent but I would think that you have something extra under your sleeve... :)

I hope i can attend next year:smiley:

Keep up the good work

I gotta say Jarred, youre a special kind of person. Thank you for caring the way you do. I've never seen someone in your role be as active and accessible to the customer as you and Jim are. I agree with the aforementioned... People dont say thank you enough. Thanks Jim and Jarred. You guys are pretty amazing.

We learned about R3D support for FCPX the same time and probably the same way you did. The new smoke is pretty bad-ass looking. Adobe is killing it right now... in a big way.

RCX there is alot coming... gonna keep that under wraps for now :)

You wont loose your Armor after the Dragon install.

Jarred, I know its a taboo subject--but due to lack of actual answers I've been able to find, can you tell us what is in the Future of R1, Any firmware fixes to make her even better and is it officially EOL for hardware?
Ill take anything--except other people hypothesis.

R1 will get a firmware update to add RC3/RG3 soon. We love the R1.. it is what started this all.

OK.. time to go eat.

Thanks for the awesome thread Jarred... (and nice one on us who don't finish reading posts well)

Just a reminder.. the next build in a couple weeks that adds this to the camera is our first official paid firmware upgrade, we will sell the download for $1400 or you can buy a hardcopy version on a limited special edition DVD for $1500.

heh heh just kidding.

Jarred,

Great talking with you yesterday. Thanks for this thread. most everything i didn't get the chance to talk to you about is right here. It means the world that You (& red) will forgo sleep and rest, to give us so much info. Where the others just keep quiet.

Thanks again!

LUT in RCX and Plugins

normal RealD glasses will work.. you just get some ghosting that you have all seen before. The best glasses are ones that are matched to the screen and the projector, and there will be ones matched to the REDray Laser projector in disposable, cheap, and expensive version.

So I'm betting the expensive 3D glasses will look like Oakleys? God I hope they do.
