  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Oh and since we still are in the Question thread....
is the basic i/o definitely abandoned? or is a "simple" +1 audio module (dual XLR in) possible in the future to add to the new +1 module ;)

I apologize if this has already been asked, but is there a release date estimate on the 32GB card? Secondly, will it be able to handle faster frame rates?

A big thank you for all the work you guys are doing.

The basic I/O has been broken up into various options as you can see. Lots of 3rd parties make dual XLR "modules" already so that was taken off the +1.

Oh ok :) thank you Jarred! That was a much needed insight! I was still holding out for a possible red solution.. Guess I can abandon that ship for now ;)

Omar, the 32 is SLOWER than the available standard SSDs so all the existing frame rates of scarlet will be served, but not (much?) more.

I would love to see my Alma mater get in on this program. Are there details anywhere for this, or an appropriate person at RED that schools should contact?

I think Jarred already hinted that it would serve part of the Redmote Pro's functionality... ie: wireless video signal.

Quickie non-tech/product question for you.

Trademarks.

I know you guys are gung ho on protecting the RED trademark, and I understand why. So no use of 'RED' in business names etc.

Fair enough, loud and clear.

How about depictions of an actual RED camera? Photographs, drawings, sketches etc. on, say, letterheads, websites, and business cards?

Any restrictions there?

So true.. If you have choices you want them all. You want the latest. You want whats best, even if what you shoot is crap. Talent is not measured in pixels ;)
I am just glad to live on this interesting times in which a company built by a passionate entrepreneur revolutionized the industry in a very short period of time and established a new way of doing things. It took them almost half a decade to realize this was not a scam. Glad to see it. Glad to be part of it, even at a minimum level. Glad to see now how everyone is changing... adapting... making the best out of it. Understanding what subject to change means. Keep it up!
 
Is Jarred still answering questions? I hope so...

If Scarlet/Epic users forego upgrading to Dragon will they still be able to upgrade to the next sensor (Monstro or Dragon-MX or whatever)? If so would they have to pay a premium for skipping Dragon? (they shouldn't have to... : )

If you presume that Epic or Scarlet will be able to take Monstro on board you run the risk of being disappointed. Part of the logic behind the modular system is that you can replace your entire "Brain" as an upgrade option while retaining the other components. I wouldn't be surprised myself if that were the only way to upgrade to Monstro.

I'm not predicting that will be the case, just don't be surprised if it shakes out that way.

For photographers would be super nice to have 60fps with the Scarlet at 4k the rumored upcoming full frame 24x36 sensor.
I know that this is possible with the epic but is very expensive for people outside cinema like me.I am a professional photographer and i just could afford cameras like the hasselblad h4 40 or the scarlet. I would like to shoot with such a camera like the Scarlet is but i am a little worried about the fps at full frame

Just for clarity's sake, Dragon is a Monstro chip. It is the first release in the family. Perhaps you're referring to a full frame variant of Monstro... and yes, it remains to be seen if that would be an upgrade to the current Epic brain or require a new one altogether. Also keep in mind that Dragon isn't being deployed to Epics until the end of the year (if they hit their target) and not in Scarlet until 2013. My guess is that a full frame chip is still a little ways off.

I've been guilty of overlooking that fact in the past but this time I am strictly addressing Mike P.'s question that was apparently about the larger sensors in the series that will follow Dragon.
