Hi Jim, Ted, red team,

Please could you answer some Scarlet questions?

( I'm basing my figures that the Scarlet 3k camera will shoot red code raw at 3072 X 2334px with a color space of 4:4:4 using build 16 )

Ted talks about someone shooting a feature with the Scarlet camera. With that in mind will you be able to:

1. Use the EVF as an accessory with the Scarlet?

2. Will both the EVF and LCD screen display 2.4:1 frame markings?

2a. ... and if so - shoot native 2.4:1. Only exposing 3072 X 1280?

2b. If that is a feature - logic would assume that less memory would be used giving more capacity to the CF cards - would that be right?

2c. How much memory would be saved?

3. Will the lens eventually have markings and also gearing for follow focus control?

4. Using a portable drive, like the Grass-valley Rev-pro system, could one empty the CFs directly, through the firewire 800 port, without a computer?

5. I'm looking to use a stereo shotgun mic with the Scarlet sound system and to have up to four radio tie mics on actors recording to an Edirol R-44 solid state 4 channel field recorder. What syncing issues will I need to overcome between the two systems?

(R-44 is so small you could rig it onto the Scarlet camera itself.)

6. People talk about editing 2k proxies because no computer could edit 4k raw. Would that mean if you shot in 2k that you could edit in 2k native? If so yet again logic would denote that one could edit 3k 2.4:1 native too - So (Sorry to drag out this question... ) as I'm on a budget could the 3.06Ghz iMac with 4Gb mem and 512mb graphic memory allow native 1:1 editing of Red Raw 3k at 2.4:1?

7. To my last question. The ethernet and firewire connectivity of the iMac are the only way to connect external drives. On a Macbook pro one could use a SATA express card to the SATA connection on a fast external drive to over come through-put. ( The only difference in spec between the MacBook pro and the top iMac is bus speed - the iMac is faster! ) Could one get away with using a firewire 800 drive OR an ethernet based HDD OR are we looking at a MacBook Pro with SATA connection?

I'm slowly saving up.

All the best to your continued success.

Thanks for your time.

Why RED Scarlet o EPIC will be using 100MB per Second but RED one ?

28 or 36MB are not quite enough to handle 2K ( Window ) even in 100FPS.

I tested with other 2/3" CCD HD cameras and they are smoother than RED.

I telling the turth and TSF had done the tests at IDIFF in PAris when I was in the cinema for those Screenings.

CD, its, you know, that whole technology upgrading over time deal, because you know, the scientist doing the science stuff.
And go to the scarlet site. Stupid scarlet leaking back into reduser, tis the bane of all existence.

stupid scarlet? why it is so? its from the same company.

My own opinion is that this camera is going to be versatile but no in the same way as red one and epic are. Its going to be an optional 2nd/B camera or rival to HVX200 type handheld cameras. Although not impossible I would be surprised to see EVF's mounted on the scarlet. I don't think the lens will have grooves or witness marks and so be totally unsuited to follow focus'

Sorry....

Sorry....

Sorry folks. I've just seen that there is a Scarlet forum. I'll repost there.
