Questions about Red Pro matte box

Looking for a matte box to mount to to 19mm studio rails. The rig will be used on a tripod primarily, with some use on a dolly as well. No handheld. The Red Pro matte box looks really good, but I have a couple of questions.

According to the Red store, it's clip-on by default. Sorry, but I cannot trust clip-on matte boxes. However, if I read right you can get a mount to mount it to 19mm rails. How does that work? Does it use the DSMC Universal Mount?

Secondly, I can't seem to find any adapter rings on the Red website that fit 138mm lens fronts (Arri Alura zoom lenses). Am I just not looking hard enough, or does the 140mm adapter ring also work?

Finally, is the Red Pro matte box even worth considering? Or should I just go with an O-Box? The Red just looks so cool, and I'm sort of OCD about having all my camera gear by the same manufacturer when possible ;)

Thanks for any info!

I too am wondering about this unit and Matte Box's in general.
With the new Motion Mount, does it still make sense to get one?

I think so. You might still want multiple stages of filtration, or different types. There's more than just neutral density. You might want a polarizer or diffuser or something, which at this point still need a matte box. For small, lightweight run'n'gunners the ND's in the motion mount make total sense. For most others, I'd say stick with the matte box.

I sold both of my RED MB's. They kept falling off of my Ultra Primes, one finally fell off and broke on a concrete floor, right in the middle of a commercial shoot. They are just too big and bulky for clip on. It was a novel idea but it just doesn't work real well in the real world, especially if you have more than one filter in it.

Just looking at pictures it looks too heavy to clip on. Personally i don't think a mattebox should ever be clipped on. If you mounted the RPMB to rods with the adapater, I think it turns into a decent studio mattebox for use on sticks.

The RODs option looks good.
What about the fact that its not a swing away.
Is this an issue for most Cine lenses?

I would image you just first make sure your rods are a little long than your lens, then just loosen the universal mount and slide that mattebox forward, change lenses, move it back into place, tighten, continue shooting!

The BT is going to be a much better studio MB, sorry Red, the red MB has its place, (I own one) like hand held and steadi cam, but it doesn't compete with full featured swing away studio MBs

Stupid question., how is anyone rotating a pola on these RED MATTE BOXes?

I had to ask, someone else is wondering.

I dont have any Polarizers so I dont bother.
