I have new iMac quad core and I was wondering if my graphics card could handle red footage?

ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5 SDRAM

Hi Brandon,

Your iMac will be able to play back footage through Redcine X but not at full quality. You should manage to play half (with some render time) and defiantly quarter quality.

You will be able to transcode RED footage to something like ProRes at 1080p or log and capture in FCP to ProRes to edit. The transfers will be several times slower than real time.

In this instance, your graphics card will make no difference. However, your CPU and number of threads available (when using REDCine, but not FCP) will.

Plenty of people view, transcode and edit RED footage on MacBook Pros. You will be fine with a modern iMac.
