Ok so I have searched the forums and I can't seem to find some answers that I need. One, in one of the user defined buttons, meter, what is the red line that comes up and how is it used? The gray scale, it doesn't change with different light/exposure how is that used? And in B17 the new rainbow meter next to the stop lights, that a meter that looks at the raw image? but how do the colors relate to exposure? Sorry I have tried to search on the forums but I couldn't find anything and those are the only things I am confused about with the camera. Thanks

Get the manual. That will help alot.

Short and sweet:

meter: you have many options, the red line you see is a focus assist. once you select it then punch the rotary dial you will see.

gray scale: simply used to set up the intensity on the LCD and evf. to show you black to white.

rainbow meter: get the manual look up false color.

OK cool. I understand the colors in false color, so if the rainbow meter is full of color does that mean it is over exposed? In false color there might be one hot spot in a dark scene but not over exposed and that meter is full, just trying to get a better understanding of that meter.

The rainbow meter is just telling you which level of the false color is active in you image. It doesn't tell you how much, just if that level (color as they correspond to false color) is active in the image.

I haven't met a DP or cameraperson who knows what IRE stands for yet, or what their Hi or Low settings do in the meters menu, and I don't use the meters much personally, just the histograms.

I guess I should have asked on the forum before to make me sound clever on shoots :), but it hasn't really been an issue.

Anyway, if anyone with more knowledge can shed any light on the subject I'd be very gratefull?

IRE is a video amplitude measurement. Has to do with video signal...
