  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hello and thanks for any help you can provide.

The basic Red Epic camera head with no modules on the back...

Can you get four-wire analog RGB/Sync out of the camera and where/how is this done... connector wise?

Same goes for 48K audio to connect to digital-to-analog converter to send monitor feed to sound mixer. Is there an on-camera-head connector... where and what type, please?

Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure what four-wire analog RGB/Sync is, but there are a variety of monitoring options coming straight out of the camera.

You have: HDMI and HDSDI and there is Genlock if you have the appropriate cable for it.

On the audio front, you have 2 1/8" minijacks that can feed sound into the camera. And 1 1/8" minijack headphone to monitor the sound going into the camera. Aside from this, there is no onboard sound capability (read: no mic).

I think you're asking about component analog HD connectors, which the Epic doesn't have. As stated, HDMI & HD-SDI are the real monitoring options.

There aren't any analog video outputs, but you can easily take the SDI output and send it through a Blackmagic Design mini convertor to get analog video. There is no audio output either...just audio inputs. If you were using an on-camera microphone, you would have to split your audio signal using something like a Sound Devices Mix-Pre, or better yet, just have the sound mixer send the camera a reference audio feed.

There is an audio output in the form of a headphone jack. I wouldn't consider it pro-audio, but it's enough to monitor what's going into camera.

Good point! Forgot about that one, lol...

Quoting the "tech specs" for the Epic from the Red web site it states...

Monitor Output:

2K RGB, 1080p RGB or 4:2:2, 720p RGB or 4:2:2
SMPTE Timecode, HANC Metadata, 24-bit 48Khz Audio

Just asking where these feed out from on the camera head... or do they require add-on modules to use them?

These specs are referring to the HDMI and HDSDI ports on the camera brain, not RGBS analog component video.
