Hi,
I am looking at purchasing a RED Epic that has 1,500 hours on it. Do you think this qualifies as high hours and thatI should rethink the purchase?

Sensors don't degrade unless you really abuse them. Red build their products like tanks and they are really made to work in a tough professional envirmoent. You can always have it evaluated by RED for a small fee to be sure but 1,500 hrs is not a lot of hrs compared to some film cameras I still work with which have done 10's of 1000's of tough hrs from rental houses. I'd say you could easily buy a 1,500hr camera with confidence. Just look for obvious signs of abuse on the outside discarding normal wear and tear. The Brains of any RED are very well protected.

I agree with Jon. I picked mines up with 500 hours on it (now upgraded to dragon with 3 hours).
I didn't have a doubt that this was still a super solid very well built camera. Just make sure all the
ports etc look good and work perfect. And if the price is right GRAB it. I however think there's some
battle tested cameras about to hit da market.

Thanks guys. I decided to buy it!
