Hi all,

Recently I'm testing my new RED and have some problem with it. I connect CHIMEI's HDTV as my monitor with SDI, and it looks great. However, when I open r3d file with REDAlert or REDcine, it looks quite different from HDTV showed. I'm sure that REDcine has loaded the same setting as RED camera, but they look different. What is the problem? HDTV or setting?

I also have another question of its concept. Even if I don't set it well at camera, I can still do adjustment with REDAlert or REDcine. Does this mean that when I use RED camera, it's totally done by post-production no matter how I shoot?

Thanks.

Hasetas

It all depends on what your project settings are in both programs.

You see the camera shoots raw but previews in a REC709, which is set for computer monitors.

So in RA and RC you can set your project settings. For example Camera RGB and REDLOG will be without any settings, it's more or less all info straight up for you to "bend" and form anyway you like, but it looks washed.

REC709 or REDspace has color settings for you and is most probably what you refer to as looking great.

and to answer your post question - YES. It's all meta data that you see and nothing is actually applied to the RAW file - it's just like a negative, it needs a lab process to get it's "shine".

Uh.....so.......what should cameraman do?
Since I can do anything in Redcine, why do I set settings of camera?

If focus and grades are all right, I can shoot without settings, right?

Well, for starters, you need to set your f-stop - this is not metadata. I also believe that your shutter is not metadata.

Post doesn't nail exposure, RED is not an "all in post" camera.

not all post...........yet.

i guessing by build #23 we will have you bunch sorted out, the edits wll be voice actived commands and you will be able to render the lot on your iPhone.

cool.....more time for the beach....:)
