What's up everybody,

We are putting together a budget for a film to shoot next spring and summer overseas. Our cinematographer, producer, and cameraman are pretty set on shooting on a RedOne.....and I'm not the one to kick them in their creative and visionary balls and say no.

Part of the budget for this project is to offset the cost of the equipment by selling it once the shoot is over, which will be over a year away (shooting March-October). As hard as I have looked, I have yet to see a used one listed anywhere to reference!

My question to you guys is, how much I could possibly get for a used Camera? I don't have the specific list with all of the accessories in front of me, but the total of the Red package would total around $65. We will be shooting around 30 days, 4-8 hours per shoot.

Any responses will be helpful and appreciated.

First of all -- this is a real names forum, you're account is now locked.

You won't find too many used RED Ones. This is a testament to RED's business model and how well the RED One is actually doing right now. To buy a used RED One with MX sensor, you're realistically looking at *a minimum* of $19K and up for the camera body. A brand new RED One with MX sensor can be ordered from RED for $25K.

I'm not sure what you mean by $65 for total. I'm assuming that is a typo. If that happens to be a day rate over the 30 day period, then that is a steal! That's less than $2K for 30 days of shooting a RED One. Even if it's a very basic package, that's an incredible bargain. In most places, a RED One MX body alone rends for over $400/day or $1200/week.

He registered without using his real name. He has been given instructions on how to correct this. The policy as of a couple months ago is any new members who register without using a real name are instantly banned/locked out. The sign-up page states this in huge, bold letters. He has the choice of re-registering with his real name or sending an email with a name change request, then he's back online.

Yes, it may seem harsh, but it seems to be the only way we can keep up with the real name policy. And many users are very demanding about us enforcing the policy because they themselves were at one point forced to comply. I kinda wished it didn't say "banned" under his username. Would be nice if we also had a "locked / real-name" tag or something.

As for the original poster's price he mentioned. It may have been $65K as Aaron suggests, but if that's so, it seems extremely high for a $30-day rental... Unless it includes lots of gear, lights, etc..

Here in Montreal, it's about $800 a day - $1000 a day without lenses, but with media/LCD.

Varies by market, for sure. MX goes for about $750~$900 day here when it includes the LCD, a few aks like top handle, Arri base, etc.. and a few 16GB cards or a RED Drive. While I have seen an increased demand for the MX, most people still don't know what it is around here and are not willing to pay a premium for an MX camera over a non-MX.

If the OP was asking about $65K worth of gear and to resell after, I think it's fair to expect to sell for about 15% less than what he buys for. It should be in great condition with only a month of usage, but the warranty on the camera body and other RED gear does not transfer.

Depending on what he's looking to rent, he will probably do better and have fewer headaches if he goes the rental route.

What the hell happened here? Why did this guy get banned? Looks like you just attacked the guy and then banned him for no reason.

And he may need to stay anonymous to his investors or for some other reason. Wish REDuser could institute a "guest" designation so a poster could ask a legitimate question or two without having to compromise their situation. This would satisfy the grumbler types who want everything by the book and still allow access to people with need to ask for help. This would then allow moderators like Jeff, Martin, etc. the flexibility to perhaps review those posts or at least be aware they are being put up and moderate them.

He may not be able to access the website, I could not when I was banned.
