Hi guys,

Just did a shoot with the Scarlet and for some reason, after backing up files, I have noticed that some clips appear individually (meaning their numbering is unique and there are no others within the R3D folder) and others appear as several copies (3 usually, but also clips with 2 only) and the only difference between these clips is the number at the end. For example:

_001.R3D
_002.R3D
_003.R3D

They are all made from the same clip and judging by the size they are smaller proxies of a main clips a bit like the older Red 1 footage. So I have two questions:

1) Can anyone clarify why is the camera doing this randomly? It could also be that I am unwittingly pressing some button that creates these. But it would be good to know how to be in control here.

2) Cutting a movie using CS5.5 or 6, proxies are no longer needed. Is the option still there for cutting movies using other NLEs that don't support native R3D? (I've got a feeling I just answered my own question...)

Thanks

Antonio

Hi Antonio,

This is addressed in other discussions in threads but the short is: The files are not proxies. They are the result of the camera recording a clip of more than 2GB, thus one clip spans across the files. You cannot delete any of them or you will destroy the clip. RedCineX, Premiere and other applications simply see them as one clip. They are all put in that nifty folder to keep them together! Hope that helps. I had the same question when I started using Scarlet.

Ha, that explains it. But if you're not using Redcine to transcode them and you are editing natively with CS6, they appear to be separate clips, usually with the _001.R3D being the larger file. Does this mean you should always select the _001.R3D as the clip you drag to your timeline?

Many thanks,

Antonio

CS6 is concatenating them automatically too, just choose the first one.
