Question about REDRAY standby mode

When one puts the REDRAY into standby using the remote or phone app power button the disk does not spin down, is this normal? If so are most people powering off using the switch on the back which means waiting for it to boot up each time?

For us yes its the only way unless someone chimes in with a better solution.
