Just wondering what the differences between the two Optimo 'rouge' lenses, and their regular '35mm' line of zooms is. I know that the 'rouge' are for digital cameras only, and cannot go on film cameras, but considering the very large price difference between the two, i am assuming there are more differences than just that.

anyone know?

also, anyone know how the optimo line of lenses (either rouge or 35mm) will project onto 5K and beyond?

If the Rouge is in Arriflex Positive Lock mount why can't it be used on a film camera?

I had the french rep on the phone a month ago.

T2.6 for the Optimo, T2.8 (someone said on these boards, it was more 2.9/3) for the Rouge. Less focus marks (i guess range° is a bit shorter)

So optics and mechanics have a slight difference, but it's is good enough to be called an Angenieux Optimo.
Actually, on my monitor (i've only seen it while editing), it matches very well with the regular Optimos.

from the best of my knowledge, the retrofitting (to make it short enough) seems to be complex and eats up a lot of engineering and manufacturing effort.

After petting the Optimos at NAB, I think the 17-80 is the most impressive zoom out there.

The Rouges are much smaller, and look & feel cheaper, IMHO. BUT my girlfriend thought they were the nicest lenses @ NAB.

I would dispute that (sofly at least) as it transmits like a UP at T2.8..

It feels, mainly due to the hideous but essential Red collar, a bit cheap in the hand.

It is a great lens and we will buy the shorter one to match it.

The only sour note for us is that the Pound is so weak! When I put our name down I thought it was going to cost me about £11-12k. I bought it the 'day' the pound nearly hit 1 to 1 with the Euro..

I agree with red rings on the Rouge looking cheap, but the funny thing is that they are exactly the same material as the black rings on the cine Optimo line. I think if they were a darker shade of red ...
