  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Question about getting into the rental Business

What if I threw in a Red One MX for good measure, or an Epic, whenever I would be able to buy those I could get an F3 temporarily.
The world of camera ownership sounds like a depressing one, I guess it wouldn't make much of a difference.

Lets say for the sake of argument I lost my mind and bought a full set of Carl Zeiss Master Prime lenses, would there be much of a market in renting them out?

depends where you live, i'm in calgary canada and there is only one rental house to compete with here, panavision and they dont carry any red ones. i know of only one person that rents there red package in calgary.

I live in Auckland New Zealand, I think a few places have red cameras, I don't know if Panavision keeps any in stock because they said they don't carry anything smaller then an f900 but Rocket Rentals has an MX and I think an M as well because they offer the option for either or but Rocket don't have Master Primes only Ultra Primes or Super speeds.

MPs don't ROI very quickly, unless you are working with films with big feature film budgets who can afford to rent your full set for the full shoot days...

at $225/lens/day, let's say for a rough comparison, your five-lens set, say, needs to work on 4 pictures at 30 days to roughly begin turning a profit.

they aren't cheap to service, and they are expensive to ship to have them serviced.

unless you are a rental house, I don't think it is a good investment.

If they are available in the pool, Panavision Calgary will bring in Reds. They're just pretty low on the totem pole.

And FYI there are at least 5 privately owned Reds in Calgary.
