Sorry if the answer is obvious, but I always like to make 100% certain about something before making a purchase...

I know that on ET's site they state that to use the MANTIS Hand-Held Kit with the Red One you "will need the ET Arri-Style Base from RED.com or similar Arri compatible bridge plate" but I am confused which plate to get from Red.com -- the Bridge Plate (19mm) or Arri 15mm Base. I use 19mm rods with my Red so I assume the 19mm would be the way to go but I'm not sure. Also is there anything else that I need to mount these plates on my Red One?

Thanks!

The RED (actually Element Technica) 19mm Bridge Plate is the best solution. This is the new ET Hybrid plate, which slides onto an Arri dovetail. It comes equipped to support 19mm rods, but can be converted to use 15mm with additional hardware.

This hybrid plate has replaced the older style ET Arri base. RED is still selling the 15mm version of the older style plate, but if you use 19mm rods it's not what you want anyway. You might be able to find an older style used 19mm Arri base for sale as there are people who are upgrading to the new Hybrid plate.

You don't need anything special to mount it onto the RED. It just bolts onto the bottom and mounts directly to the ET Mantis. You should also consider getting an Arri dovetail plate for your tripod head or other support equipment. Then you can leave the Arri base on the camera and not have to switch back to the RED bottom plate or other support you've been using.

ALLSTAR has an Arri base in the works as well, but I don't think it's shipping yet.

Yes, you will need the Arri Style Bridge Plate (15mm or 19mm) to be able to quickly slide the camera onto the Mantis. The bridge plates are available through Red, or Element Technica. The Mantis works with the New Hybrid Bridge Plate as well as the old style bridge plates. It also works with any Arri BP, like you'll find on a 435, Arricam, F23, or F35. It Does Not work with the Red Base. That is a proprietary system that Red developed.

You can also bolt the Mantis directly to the bottom of the camera and then use our ultra light 15mm clamp to hold your FF and matte box. The ultra light 15mm clamp bolts directly to the Red and gives you the 15mm lightweight rod standard to mount accessories.

So if I were to buy the Mantis I would have to remove my mounted on RED Bottom plate that holds 19mm rods for a 19mm hybrid plate to attach it to the handheld unit?

If you got the hybrid plate you would throw the red plate in the trash, you'll notice why when you get one.

Does anyone know which arri dovetail Plate to buy for the Miller Arrow 55?

The et website has all the plates listed for O'connor. Would I get the 1030 plate? the 2060? and what length? Its a pain having to switch back to the Red baseplate everytime i need to put the camera on sticks...

If you use 19mm rods then get the 19mm bridgeplate. The original "ARRI Bridge" in 15mm or 19mm is no longer made (they were Element Technica products). Instead there is now the Hyrid bridgeplate, which can come with mounts for a variety of rod sizes. Most common is still the 19mm, which is what it sounds like you need. This can be purchased from RED or you can purchase the same item from Abel Cine Tech, a dealer of ET products. For the dovetail plate, any of the models ET makes would work on a Miller 55. I would recommend the 12" 2060 dovetail plate as the basic model as it is a good, short length for use with primes and smaller zooms and it is lower in height than the 1030 dovetail. This plate can also be purchased from Abel Cine Tech, but not from RED.

You attach your Arrow 55 quick release plate to the 2060 dovetail and use either the 19mm bridgeplate or the new hybrid bridgeplate which attaches directly to the camera. Easy swap between handheld and sticks.

The 12'' 2060 dovetail would be the best choice for the arrow 55. The 1030 is the best choice for the OConnor 1030, and the 2060/2575 dovetail is the best choice for the OConnor 2060, 2575, 120EX, and any other head from Cartoni, Sachtler, or other head manufacturers. You can use the 1030 dovetail on fluid heads other than the 1030, but it requires special screws because the threads are recessed. We can provide these screws for $25/pair.
