  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So, if I understand correctly, the new scarlet-X is using the mysterium-X sensor from the epic (yay), but is reading the pixels at about half the bandwidth/data rate.

1) How is this going to affect rolling shutter / jell-o pictures? If it's actually reading the pixels out at half the speed, it seems that would be an issue...
2) What about low-light performance? I've heard grumbles that the sensors for the scarlet will have poor low-light performance...

I know everyone is saying "just look at epic footage to see what your footage will be like". But it seems like having some stuff shot on this 'similar' but not 'identical' camera would be nice...

I don't know many who have a Scarlet to play with versus an EPIC, assumptions are terrible things,

The bandwidth maybe less but the sensor and performance of the sensor will be relatively the same, it won't be able to output as much but I doubt that would effect the lowlight performance,

I don't think it'll be able to do things like the new Canon, going into that ISO 20,000 territory but I doubt most would like to go down that road...

It will be good enough for a usual production and for natural light but its not going to be giving you night vision...

Then again, I dont have a Scarlet myself so I'm now just assuming. Anyway lets wait till the someone gets in hand and hope someone runs similar lowlight tests as have been in the past

I'm a newbie but if the max datarate of red mx is 42mb/s and the datarate of scarlet is 55mb/s it will at least be the same quality as red mx right? And i understand that extra bandwith on the epic is used for increased heavy framerates or less compression but for a 6:1 redcode wouldnt all aspects be equal between epic and scarlet as they read at the same speed? Am i wrong on some points?

As far as I can tell, it's the image processing ASICs are what are being underclocked, not the sensor. Should make absolutely no image quality difference.
