Now ... imagine if we could integrate QTAKE SERVER and FRAME.IO .... heh heh heh :)

Hi Jake,

sorry, we have no tutorial videos yet, but I will try to explain this step by step.

QTAKE Video Assist is recording direct feed from cameras. In addition to ProRes recording, QTAKE is also encoding processed H264 proxy files on the fly, ready for streaming. Processed H264 means they can have on-set color grading applied or any other effects, including on-set compositing or just a simple OSD burn-in. At this time, each take will already have metadata that QTAKE parses from camera SDI feed as well as basic scene/shot/take and active in/out ranges entered by video assist operator.

For example, if there is a DIT using LiveGrade Pro, QTAKE can read current CDL values over network, apply grade to video during recording, but also store it as a metadata with each take. If there is a MRMC motion control on set, QTAKE can read camera motion and apply it to imported CGI scene, but also store it as a metadata for each take. If this is a Stereo 3D production and you're pulling HIT, QTAKE will apply HIT and also store it as a metadata.

During recording, QTAKE can send live processed video stream to QTAKE Monitor iOS app (up to 16 iPads can be used as wireless 1/2/4 camera monitors), but it will also upload it to QTAKE Server - to make it available for independent playback and metadata editing by any approved crew member. So, Script Supervisor can enter continuity notes, AC can enter additional camera notes, Sound Mixer can enter sound roll, VFX people can enter whatever data they need to travel with each take to post. If your department is missing any predefined field or preset value in our database, you can easily add it and it will appear for every client that has a permission to access it.

In general, our goal is to collect all available metadata into one central database, ready to be pushed to post/production process. Every piece of information is attached to a specific take (identified by original camera filename) or even specific frame (identified by timecode).

QTAKE Server is also solving problem with multiple units. Imagine you're shooting second unit miles away from the main unit. You don't need to send files for director's approval anymore. You can setup QTAKE Server in the cloud and it will synchronize media and metadata automatically. That means as soon as the second unit records new take, it will be available for review by main unit director or a producer. And his notes will be synced back to second unit. This can dramatically improve production workflow.

If you have additional sources of video, such as renders or pre-viz or sequences from on-set editor, you can set up Watch Folders in QTAKE Server, to make those clips available to anyone who needs to see it. All in the single system. Single app.

There is no final pricing yet, but we expect around $300 per month for on-set QTAKE Server license with unlimited number of projects and users. No info on cloud pricing yet, but we won't limit it to our hosting.

Hi Mark,

I was talking to Flappi from Ovide's SmartAssist and I asked him to look into FoolColor.

What would happen if Mikeal, Vlado and yourself integrated a VideoAssist / D.I.T. project. (insert flamethrower animation here).
