Hello,

I'm based in London and ready to purchase an EPIC.

To all the RED owners from England and Europe, I would like to ask you:

what is the best way ?

To buy in US and bring it to europe or to purchase through RED EUROPE (paying an average of 8%of freight and 20% VAT) ?

Taking in consideration that US is definitely cheaper and I plan to hire the equipment here and get tax return claiming that the income comes from an equipement.

any tips, advice ?

all the best

As the guys here have already mentioned. But from RED Europe.

If your planning on hiring it out, it's easier for services and if anything goes wrong to deal with Alan and the guys there, especially if your based in London.

Its not much cheaper that the US as Alan has mentioned numerous times, all they do us add the import duties then apply VAT. If you can, and have not done already, I'd register for VAT (if your a company) then you can claim it back.

Plus Alan and the entire team at RED Europe are so easy to deal with.
:))

If you are in London and are in a position to claim back the VAT, then it's simple - RED Europe. Alan and his team provide excellent support and are available before LA wakes up. Get to know them, deal with them and you won't be disappointed.

I can only confirm this after buying three cameras and lots of accessories from London: very friendly and efficient staff there, as RED as can be!

BTW, you don't need to be in London, if you are VAT registered, it's valid in all of EU. A private person would pay their local VAT, a company would deduct it from due taxes.

can´t believe the 8% story.

two weeks ago i ordered 2 items in the red store and get them via red u.k.
a 100 $ cable and a usb3 mini cardreader 195 $ in the red store. so that makes 295 $ right?

i was charged by red uk with 260,-- GB Pound.

i did the wire transfer, overall i paid 314,-- € for this two items, worth 295,-- $.

that´s a massive price increase for european buyers.
and this amound does NOT INCLUDE 20% VAT, which you don´t pay, if you have a valid UST ID No.

in past i bought a lot of things from red via red u.k., my experience: calculate 1:1 the us price in euro.

best, norbert

what about customers located in europe but not part of the EU (i.e. switzerland)? one more medium sized job and I can afford a fully equipped scarlet rig.... but of course, budget is tight, so I'd like to know about all options.
