Hey gang,

First time poster, long time reader. I've finally managed to secure funding for a camera rental house and a Red One with the MS-X sensor will be our flagship camera.

Currently, I'm in the planning and scheduling phase but I wanted to know how long does it usually take to have the Red One in my hands after I make my deposit?

Howdy,

From what I'm aware, they are in stock and available for immediate delivery.

Best of luck with your new camera.

Welcome to Redsuer David,

you can buy a new Red One right now, but you will not be able to have the MX sensor upgrade done till all currently sold Red One cameras have had their chance to their MX upgrade first.

I expect the MX for the store should become available in few months form now.. or sooner???

Hey David. I actually just bought a Red One. From the time you put your deposit down (and depending on how fast you wire RED the money) it should be between 1 to 2/3 weeks (they are behind in processessing shipping orders for cameras, so it's taking them a little longer).

Hey,
does anyone know if I were to purchase a used RED one that is allegable for the <X upgrade now, does the old owner still need to do it or can I do it after the ownership has transferred?
Thanks

If by the X you mean MX, then the owner of record needs to take charge of the process, by empowering you with Red to do the MX upgrade.
If by X you mean Epic-X, then this is even more delicate as the owner of record is the one and only with the legal right to do the upgrade, and if there is a strait sale of the camera the upgrade path is considered voided by Red, so you can only do a Lease Option to buy and once the Epic-X has been delivered you can then claim ownership doing a transfer of ownership with Red by paying the fees.

I think the X in EPIC-X means an exchange between your RED One and the EPIC-X. Its for people who want to upgrade their RED One to an EPIC. You need to be the original purchaser of the camera to register for the upgrade. I guess someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks a lot for the information, gang. I love this website.

I'm interested in buying a used RED package for my production company in the next couple of weeks-- does anyone have advice on where I should look and/or what I should watch out for? I'd be interested to know how much I could save buying used rather than new, too.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

The best place to buy a used Red One is here, on Red User. You may be able to get a Stage 2 executed body (not eligible for discount on Epic) in good condition for $9-$10k.

I imagine that non-executed Red One body that entitles you for trade in or discount on Epic would be at least the same price as new ($17,500), most likely more.

The above are for non-MX sensor. With MX sensor upgrade add another $5k or so.

Most accessories can be purchased second hand at about half price, except for the drives, which we have shortage of because they have been discontinued in anticipation of SSD drives to be available soon.

Hope it helps.

Wow, that was fast and it definitely helps. I like it here already.

thanks

I have to disagree with Pawel's pricing assessment. I haven't seen any RED Ones going for as cheap as he says. Iv'e been looking. New ones with MX sensor and no side-CF module are $25K. It seems that going rate for an MX RED One w/CF module (executed) is right around $19K or even a bit more. Subtract about $5K if it's non-MX.

His estimation might be realistic for non-MX R1s AFTER delivery of all stage 2 EPICs.

if i want to buy R1 or scarlet in future, what is the paying and delivery process for me, because i am residing in India, Asia. Is there any excess cost to me at all. like import fees or any costs etc? also warranty processes too. what is the policies of red company in exporting their products to these countries?
thanks for your info.
