  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PS technik have made clones of the vintage Kowa Anamorphic lenses!

They do look interesting... Anyone know if the optical IP is licensed off Kowa (or who every holds it) OR are they reverse engineered?

Basically on paper the best ana gimbal option out there.. I am sure as soon as they ship a 32 (or similar) and to a lesse extent the 135 there will be more interest

it is also really interesting that P+S have been showing these on their web site since Nab and nobody has picked up on them...

Now that reissues on popular vintage lenses are becoming common, I'm curious what the market for the originals will do. Between these and the Cooke Panchro /i series, it seems like a trend that will continue.

Have a look at the Scorpio's..lighter, shorter & a faster T stop too :)

I've used them several times on TVC's & I love them...so much so that I bought a set!

I cant find one serious review of these, no prototypes out there to be tested?

I found these recently. Funny thing is, I see old Kowas going for 22k a piece now, which is more than these!!

The side by sides look completely different.

The new lenses are way sharper, the bokeh looks different...

It's because everything is aligned properly

The post above yours has your answer:

actually I think the shape of the face is less distorted on the original. But anamorphic "mump's" are prob. different from lens to lens.

It'll be great to have reliable sets of Kowas out there with smooth, modern mechanics. So many sets out there currently have idiosyncratic issues here and there.

As with all anamorphic lenses, it doesnt take much to knock something out of alignment. one more factor to weigh in on owning ana glass is the relative high cost of maintenance:)

Sidney is right, if you look at bokeh and facial contour, it looks like the original Kowa is properly aligned, while the new lenses image is a bit tilted(but still looks sharper).
