I dont think Id blow an additional $2500 to just record proxies. That's expensive. Im saving for the epic, and that alone is very expensive and taking a while to save up.
But, Im just curious, if I ever shall maybe want to rent one or dont need the RAW files.

When recording ProRes. How high quality of ProRes is it?
Maybe if I have clients that dont want to record RAW and maybe only to ProRes, will this be sufficient enough?

You could get the Odyssey 7Q, and get a ton more features and be able to rent it out seperately. Just a thought...

Yup - the Odyssey 7Q is the solution that I'm waiting for too. It's feature set seems great - plus the daily rental on other recording options is a great idea.

Michael, I'd say this (or a similar off camera recorder) would really be a good match for you. I remember you had a lot of trouble with monitoring and noise on one job... this would let you work in a more WYSIWYG way... and you'd always have the RAW as backup. Plus this can be an AC's monitor (etc).

The O7Q looks to be in good hands now, as Mitch (ex Abel Cine) is working for them.

Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 is only $350 and does 1080p Prores HQ, DNxHD, and Uncompressed. Just add an SSD and you're good to go.

That said, I don't think the file names match (although I haven't even attempted to try as I don't have my own), but that shouldn't matter too much if you're not recording RAW anyway. And yeah, it can be triggered via record button and you can set your HDSDI to "clean" while all your info still shows up on the LCD/EVF.
