I just got my new 8-core and loaded my FC Suite. But when I went to import QT proxies all I get is a white screen (which appears to play in the viewer...). If I drop it into the timeline and render, it says that the codec is unsupported.

Meanwhile, it all works dandy on my Macbook pro, which is running the same version of FCP (6.0)

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

No, I haven't gotten to the plug-ins because I haven't updated FCP yet. But I'm wondering how that could be the issue if I can import them fine without the plug-ins on the MacBook.

Thanks Clark. Sorry I missed the last DFCPUG meeting.

Quicktime takes you to a page that allows you to easily upload the plug in the quicktime player - I'm sure you must have done that on your Macbook (perhaps forgot?) - the plug is a couple of megs

Hey while we are talking about this... I am trying to bring an m proxy into a fcp sequence and it takes forever to render. Is there a way I can bring in a proxy into the timeline that requires no rendering?

I checked the versions of QT on the 2 systems. The Macbook (where the proxies work) is running 7.2.1 The 8-Core (where they don't) is running 7.4.1

Why does it work on an older version and not a newer one?

I just got both up and running and haven't done any updates to any of the software. I am especially concerned regarding the QT updates. Will updating to 7.5 solve the problem?

You shouldn't have to render. Are you set to Unlimited RT in your timeline? How about High Precision YUV processing?
What are your system specs?

Thanks shawn, I just finally got all those pieces put together and made it work. However, the 3k proxies don't want to play unrendered, is that a qt/fcp thing with 3k like it has with 4k 16:9?

Not sure about 3K - but are you trying to work with the proxies created from 3K footage? If so, you shouldn't have to render when using the _M proxy.
