I've just recently begun to work with REDrushes and it seems as though when I export with the ProRes 422 codec, QuickTime 7 and FCP5 can't see the video. When opened in QuickTime7, under "Window" and "Show Movie Properties", the "Video Track" shows a duration of "0.00". I'm not sure why it's showing that and why REDrushes is exporting a file that I am unable to view. As always I'm on a tight schedule to get the footage turned around, so any advice as to how I can fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

ProRes was introduced in FCP6. That's why you can't see it. You'll need to upgrade.

Quicktime needs the codec installed when you install FCP Studio 2, so even Quicktime won't play it.

Thanks Steve. That's what I was thinking, but it's good to hear it from someone else. But do you know if REDrushes uses FCP6's ProRes 422 plugin? I'm still not sure why REDrushes is taking a 1.1GB file and making a 17MB file with only audio. My only guess is that it's using the FCP6 plugin which doesn't exist. Does that make sense? Do you know if REDrushes should have come with its own plugin? Thanks!!

Prores decoder is provided separate now since Apple added the support to Windows.

Mac version can be downloaded here.

Yes, if he is only looking to view the footage. I assumed he was looking to edit it as well. But yes, the decoder will allow you to at least view the clips in Quicktime. I forgot they were offering that for Mac users as well.

Thanks everyone for your input! I've tried downloading this plugin, but I think that because it's only for playback, it's not letting REDrushes use it to encode the video in the first place. The problem that I seem to be having is with REDrushes not encoding any video under the ProRes 422 codec output setting. Should REDrushes be pulling this codec from FCP6? Thanks!

right, steve, he wants to decide on the workflow.
DVCPRO HD might be more size/quality effective as long as not getting mixed with the aspect.

Phil, it is indeed using the codec for encoding and that version of the codec needs to come from FCP Studio 2. I agree with Kaku that DVCProHD might be a better option for editing in FCP5.
