i know there was a thread on this months and months ago, but no matter what i search i cant find it now.
i have a little personal project that just wants prores, in this case i dont want to shoot r3ds at all, please dont say shoot r3d and prores because that is not what im going to do for this one.
but, im trying to figure out how to give them the option of me shooting and baking in a look in camera in just prores, or giving them the option of giving them a log or raw look with just shooting prores.
so i know how to switch it over to just prores, but how do you tell it what to record. in video section the first pull down is "graded" and the the other two are "dragoncolor2" and "redgamma4". is this section just for the video viewing pleasure or does it control the file being recorded other then meta data. specifically on the prores file being recorded.
any help would be great. sometimes i wish you can just yell phil! and tap your heels 3 times and he flies through the window :)

menu -> settings -> recording -> codec tab -> scroll to prores only (on magnum i use 2k at 4444).

This is saving my but in doing VR.

that's atleast on 6.2.51
Thanks Patrick!
I do know that part, but since you are using it, how do i choose or know or if there is even an option for it to be a flat log file or a baked in dragon color or rec709?

menu->settings->look->video (on the video source tab) ... i set it to dragon color 2 with redlogfilm when i'm on 4444. I'm certainly not the expert at this though.

so is that to get the flat log look on the file but be watching dragincolor2 on the monitor.
if so, ay reason why not redgamma4 which is the deafult?

I have to flip everything to linear for nuke, and I find redlogfilm is easiest to do that.
got it, so im understanding that the first choice is what you see in the monitor and the second choice is what you are laying down. thank you!

I'm not so sure about that, the first choice I think is more of the "algorithm" set for the color space without the actual "compression" curve, the second is more of the curve that is placed on that color space (i.e. log).

If you really look closely at the video section, look at all the tabs and all the settings, it will make sense, but I suggest hooking up a touch, a sdi monitor, load some 3d luts in there, then change and play with the settings while going into playback mode too to see the files being recorded. It's a little confusing at first but it really does make a lot of sense and is actually pretty simple and laid out well

As an example, I use a 3d lut for the touch and sdi, I record log, but for both the monitor and recording I modify the red look settings so on my monitors I have both a 3d lut and some custom look settings underlying that in log, but upon playback and recorded files I get log and the look settings which come up by default

I can then apply the same 3d lut in post and me modified red log settings are ready for it
