Hi guys. Yesterday i was recording all day in prores format and everything seemed to be ok. Today I unloaded the footage and more than 2/3 of the material is not usable. You press play and the clip plays only pixels , some clips are like you have half the opacity and you see 2 pics, some are frozen with no sound … If you try to play the footage in the camera some clips show the red logo and are not playable while others show the same issues as the uploaded material. The firmware of the camera is the latest beta one and the card i used is an angelbird 512 av pro only used by the specific komodo . I feel that the issue is with the firmware. Since the update i have recorded in redraw without any issue and it was the first time i did it in prores. Any thoughts???

You mention beta, which beta version specifically? There was an early beta version that had some bugs but it was resolved shortly after.

But, we are out of beta on Komodo (1.6.4) production build is the latest one: https://www.red.com/download/komodo-firmware - so maybe try updating this build and trying some ProRes again.

Panos,

Do these Pro Res files play straight out of the camera? Have you downloaded the files using a different reader, cables and computer? Pro tip is to always hit playback a couple of times during a shoot to make sure all is well. It only takes seconds and this protocol should be followed regardless of the camera type. Assuming you are on a shoot that producers have paid a lot of money to setup and you don't do a single QC check during the shoot there will be blood on the floor.

We tried different readers different sdi’s different programs . We played the footage from the camera and we had the same issue. Unfortunately it is recorded like that. Talked to the red support center and told me that there is a big possibility that the specific firmware is to blame for and suggested to update the firmware. Although i am in this business since 94 it is the first time I encountered such a problem . Anyway i will take on your advice Tom and always do a check from now on ! Thank you all for reaching out to me!
