  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Prores conversion

oddly enough. Final Cut Pro seems to move pretty fast.. I know there are ways to encode in Avid also that my DIT told me is quicker.. red cine is great but you need a decent machine or a red rocket x. even still tho.. we just transcoded 16 TB of redcode and it took over a week going 24/7 on a fully tricked out mac pro

Change the debayer settings to half and make sure deb and add are turned off

Debayer settings, media-speed, GFX card, memory and CPU all play into this.
You CAN have realtime or close to, but then you need the horsepower, too

Use raid fives not single disk arrays too

Resolve and Premiere also cruise along pretty quick. I use Resolve and/or FCPX most of the time for transcodes. REDCINE just doesn't make use of the hardware and is tied too close to the Rocket X for acceleration. If you must use RC-X, then make adjustments to the DeBayer and other settings as suggested above and/or get a Rocket X card. But watch out for Rocket X -- it doesn't support DEB and some other features you may want/need.

Fast drives a RedRocket card or a really good Cuda-Nvidia card and maybe Resolve.

wow, I did not realize RCX was not the fastest way to transcode to pro res. It's all I've ever used.

I have FCPX, could someone explain to me how to transcode to pro res using FCPX once I've already made the adjustments to the clips and saved RMD's for them using RCX? Or point to a good tutorial perhaps? Many thanks

We have a tricked out Mac Pro 5.1 with RRX, and always does realtime (or close to)...even with single 7200RP drives...using RESOLVE. Only thing that slows it down are clips that are denoised, but then the Titan Black helps with that!
